Is it possible to combine two or three slides to make one? I think some of my recording settings were changed during a Captivate tutorial, and now when I record, it is creating more slides from my demonstration than it did before. I can't figure out what to do!!!! HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Lisa, I think you might have put your finger on the problem in your initial post, to wit: " ... some of my recording settings were changed ...". Sounds to me like that's exactly what happened.

Between the time you made the original recording and later went back to capture the additional screenshots, it is possible that the recording mode got changed ... whether inadvertently or on purpose doesn't really matter. For instance, if the original was done in "Demonstration" mode but the later shots were taken in one of the interactive modes, it would be capturing screenshots each time you hit a keyboard key in the later instance, adding slides that weren't being required in Demo mode the first time through.

Impossible to say without having been there, but do you think that is a possibility??

Yes, Larry! I think this is a definite possibility. I will just keep experimenting with my settings until I find the ones that work for me. The fact that you said the Custom mode can record more slides than necessary gives me a good idea of where I probably messed up.

Thanks so much!!

Hi Lisa,
You cannot "combine" many slides into one (why would you want to?) but you can choose to "Hide" unneeded slides, or delete them entirely. To hide or delete a slide, right-click it on the Filmstrip (or the thumbnail in Storyboard view) and select the action you want taken with the slide.

Creating more slides than needed isn't a problem - better too many than too few. Just use the above method to hide the extra slides, and run a full movie preview to be sure the "hidden" slides are really not needed, then delete them when you are sure you don't need them.

Ciao!

Thanks for responding Larry! I will try to explain my situation as simply as I can. I recorded a demonstration movie on some business software. I later went through Iconlogics Captivate Tutorial book. When I went back to revise the movie, I noticed I needed to change one of my slides which meant re-recording that particular screen (because it included some key strokes and data entry in the demonstration) and deleting the old slide. Well, when I re-recorded the screen, it actually captured it in 4 different slides instead of one slide like the first time. Does this make sense? I had to press the tab key a few times in the demonstration, and I noticed that was when it went to a new slide. I probably changed some of my preferences during the tutorial, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what needs to be changed back. As you can see, I am a rookie here. I guess I can work with the extra slides, I just couldn't figure out why it recorded it differently the second time. Thanks for any help here!
