.cp and .cp.bak file extensions

Aug 23, 2013 Aug 23, 2013

Hello,

I recently transitioned to Captivate 7.0.  I have a Captivate project I created in an earlier version of Captivate, perhaps 4 or 5.  I have two files for this project, one with a .cp file extension and one with a .cp.bak file extension.  I am not able to open either with Captivate 7.0.  Do you know how I can access this project?

Thank you,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

You might have created these files in Captivate 4 or earlier, because captivate 5 onwards versions save project to .cptx.

Captivate 7 cannot open the .cp or .cp.bak files.

You will have to open these files in Captivate version 5, 5.5 or 6, any one. (Click on File > Open and browse the .cp file).

After opening that .cp file save it to .cptx and then that can be opened in Captivate 7.

cp.bak file first needs to be renamed as .cp only and then open that one as well in Captivate 5, 5.5 or 6, an

You may face issues while updating the project files as there is a gap of 3-4 versions.

P.S. : Make a backup of your .cp and .cptx files (copy them to another location as well), as once .cp file opened in later version cannot be opened in the prior version.

Thanks.

Thank you, Varun,

I guess I need to figure out how to get Captivate 4 back on my computer.  I deleted it long ago.  Do you have any easy suggestions?

You are Welcome Sarah.

Well, you need to get Captivate 5, 5.5 or 6, in order to upgrade your project from .cp to .cptx, if you can install trial version that will also work.

Thanks.

Thanks, Varun.  I am sorry, I meant Captivate 5, as you stated.  Can I download 5 from your web site so that I can open this project?  Thanks.
