CP9: Microsoft "Text to Speech" - only David is working

Hi

Poor David is working too hard - non of his Microsoft colleagues are helping him.

This has got to stop - anytime i ask Hazel, Zira, Helena, Selena to help they do nothing .... it's David that has to step in and take over.

All the other speech agents are working hard.

For the techie people:

Anytime i choose a different microsoft agent - David's voice is recorded.

Slide Notes - TTS - select agent - + - add text etc

All the other non-Microsoft agents are recording ok.

I'm using Windows 8.1.

Hi Donal,

Thanks for reporting your issue. We had a chance to look into your issue.

The voices you have referred to are the Windows 8.1 default voices. With the referred OS(win 8) you can select any one voice as the default system TTS voice and the same reflects in Captivate9. To change the default voice you can follow these steps-

1)Go to control panel.

2)Open the Speech recognition dialog.

3)Click on the Text To Speech option and Speech properties dialog shall open.

4)Change the voice you want to select as default and the same shall be used for TTS in Captivate9.

To have more flexibility and dynamic use of Voices in your project you can always go ahead and download the Captivate_9 voices by clicking on the download link available in the speech management dialog in captivate9.

I also downloaded and installed the Captivate-9 voices, but have the same problem. Only the one set as default in Settings (I gave poor David a vacation, skipped over Zira, and tried Mark) is what is working.

Can you point me in the right direction to be able to use the installed Speech Agents? Thank you!

Hi Gina,

I just downloaded the Captivate 9 speech agents for the first time.

When i installed them they appeared in the drop-down menu.

I was initially able to choose them but then it seemed to get stuck just on one agent - a Microsoft one.

I cleared out my Preferences and everything seems to be working again.

NB: When you clear preferences you're setting Captivate back to its default settings.

i.e. you lose everything you changed in Edit > Preferences, and Workspaces.

Also, the captivate startup screen that shows you recent projects is cleared.

To clear preferences read step 8 of this article - the "Tip" explains how to do it for Captivate 9.

Before doing it, it's best to read up on it.

Also after doing it just check your default locations for Published and Cached projects (Edit > Preferences > General Settings).

They should not be pointing to the same location - otherwise if you ever Clear Cache you'll delete all your published projects.

speech assets are functioning properly.
