I get and error and it says some thing like this...
Adobe Flash Player Security
Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network:
C:\BLAHBLAHBLAH(the skin.swf file)
is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location:
C:\BLAHBLAHBLAH(the .htm)
To let this application communicate with the internet, click settings.
You must restart the application after changing your settings.

Ok so you go and change the settings at this link:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html

Right, it works, but only on one computer. Alll the computers in our network get this message. Is there any way we can change by not having to change the settings on every computer? Using anything??? I work at my School district, please help me!

Welcome to the User Community, rythosyauntyrr.

What you are seeing is a security setting for the display of potentially dangerous files. You may not see this problem if the output file (SWF) is accessed from the Internet in a web browser, but as you have found, if accessed locally you will have to have each PC (browser application) setting changed to accept the "risk" posed by SWF content at that location. Note, you are not authorizing the display of a particular Flash file - you are authorizing the entire location .

That said, I have a question: Is the output file "Standard.JS" incuded in the same folder as the files you are trying to view?

Hi rythosyauntyrr and I too welcome you to the community

As my esteemed fellow Adobe Community Expert Larry pointed out, these issues normally melt away and aren't a problem if you place the Captivate content on a server and link everyone that way. But from the way it sounds, you aren't? You seem to be saying that everyone is getting this message and it would seem to indicate you are copying the Captivate content many times to different PCs. The most efficient way is normally to copy it once to a server, then point everyone to the same link.

However, I do understand you could also have valid reasons for the approach you are seemingly using. And as Larry also indicated, if you continue down this path you will need to have the "Security Sandbox" updated for all your users. Fortunately, there is a way to accomplish it more easily than by having everyone visit the same page and make the same changes. You may create something called a configuration file and place it in a certain location on your user's hard drive. It's all described at this link.

Your IT folks may be very helpful in getting the file created and propagated to each PC.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks for your help.
Ok first the question... there was no standard.js included.

Alright so we put it on the server but we still get the same error, only now its...
\\schools\.........
So we still have the problem. So can anyone shed some more light on the subject?
Thanks, Craig Philpot

Hi Craig,

Based on your reply it looks like you are placing the file on a network share. But as Larry and Rick have suggested you should place your file on a Server (not on a Share). You can easily host an IIS server if you are running Windows 2000 or higher. You may ask your IS team to create a web server for you and then you can give the link of the hosted file to other users.

Hi Craig,
In your last reply you said:

I apologize for getting back to you so late on this followup but wanted you to know that the " Standard.JS" file is a document write file that should allow the SWF to play and avoid (in certain circumstances) the security hangups.

Again, I apologize because this information should have been available to you earlier, but ... I don't believe it is the direct cause of your problem. Nonetheless, please copy the standard.js file to the same folder containing the other Captivate published output.
