How do I correct old typos without Captivate anymore?

This is an odd question, I know. But is there a way for me to correct typos in old Captivate files I designed with, if I no longer have Adobe Captivate in my subscription?

Before you go off on me, let me explain! LOL Perhaps there is a script file within the exported files where the typo is that I can update and save.  Or, does Captivate offer a new trial version I can use to do the corrections with?

I am assuming you are talking about the Captivate HTML5 output and not the CPTX files.

There is a slim chance you may be able to change some of the text in your project.

If you look inside the output folder, then in the assets > js folder you will find a JavaScript file called CPM.js

This file contains thousands of lines of JS code.  If you know of a specific typo, you could search for that string in the CPM.js and change it.

You don't have a license anymore? If you want to use a trial version, I have to offer some warnings:

  • Most recent version 12 is not compatible with older versions
  • Published output with a trial version is only valid for 39 days from the publishing date.

However there is one big caveat.  A lot of the text inside a typical older Captivate projects is not found as free text but would be embedded in image files that are created at the time the project is published.  If that's where your typos are then there's really not much you can do about it.  On the other hand, if your project was a responsive project, you are more likely to have more text strings than images.

Hope that helps.
