How to hyperlink to an external file

New Here ,
May 06, 2015 May 06, 2015

Hi,

I used to be able to link to external files (.pdf, .doc, .docx) so that a client could open a course on an LMS, click on a link, and their document would open for them. Now I can only seem to embed documents which means that should the customer change a document, it will need to be re-published.

Any ideas how to do this now please? I've asked Adobe via Live Chat but the staff member insisted that the only way to do it is to embed the file into the course/project.

Regards,

Darrell.

You can create a hyperlink/open URL or Document with the relative path:

_docs/CB_1.pdf

I have a folder that I use, "_docs" that I copy into the published files folder.

When you publish, do not publish to zip, then zip the folder when you have copied the documents.

Captivate will warn you that you need to put the files with your published content.

You could also call JavaScript to open files.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. What I want to be able to do is add a link within the course that when clicked on opens the customer's document that they have stored on their DMS/Intranet, rather than embedding the document. That way the customer can update the document and, so long as they don't change the name or location, it will always show the latest version.

If it's just one user/document you could use a full URL to the document, but may have firewall issues since it's on an Intranet.

That definitely used to work, but now, for some reason, doesn't.
