I am new to Captivate and Forums, so please excuse me for being so green.

I am trying to recreate the Classic Concentration game. Does any one have any ideas how I would do this in Captivate?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

What do you mean by 'Classic Concentration Game'? Could you explain a little bit more detailed (I'm not a gamer)? I'm almost certain that you'll need advanced actions, and I have been blogging a lot about them. Here is one link that tried to explain a use case I worked out for another user on this forum:

Concentration was a TV game show based on a children’s memory game. On the

game show, the matching cards would represent prizes that contestants

could win. As matching pairs of cards are gradually removed off the board,

it would slowly reveal elements of a rebus puzzle that contestants would

eventually have to solve.

What I'm trying to do is place the rebus puzzle on the slide and what I

think I need to do is place objects over the entire slide to hide the

rebus puzzle. I also need to have additional objects to hide the initial

objects. When matching an object the part of the rebus puzzle should

appear where the objects that were matched.

OK, I see.

Using advanced actions and variables, could be done, but will be a lot of work. Have some more questions.

How familiar are you with advanced actions in Captivate?

I suppose clicking is the way to go to select two cards? And they will have to flipped so that their content is visible? If the two cards match they have to be hidden, if they do not match they have to flip again. You do not need drag&drop functionality?

I am really not familiar with Captivate; I just recently started to play

around in it. I’m okay with doing the work, being that's how I learn.

I do think clicking is the way to go and I’m glad to see that you know

what I’m trying to do.

Hello,

I succeeded in creating such a game with only Captivate functionalities. And as I predicted, it took some time.

Are you still interested in it, please let me know. I will publish it on my blog anyway.

Thanks, will try to find some time to explain, will perhaps be longer than to create the CP-file.

Try to break it, here is a link to the published SWF. It was a challenge for me, I only used Captivate techniques:

Hello again,

I tweaked the game a little bit more, included two images to be discovered (more are perfectly possible as well), and on suggestion of Cassie, AKA FCNoobie, added another valid answer for the North America image. Now I'll try to post the work flow on my blog and prepare an article to explain the used advanced actions in depth.

You can download the SWF from the same link:

Thanks for this awesome information, however, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind to share some screen prints of the Advanced Actions box where you actually construct the if-then-else statements?  I am having trouble vizualizing where each variable goes and the sequences for each action used.

I have all of my slides and objects ready for their advanced action, but I am stuck when it comes to actually constructing the if-then statements.

Anything would be helpful.

Thanks!

Did you read my blog post? Explanations and screenshots are included there. If you are using Cp6, have also a look at this YouTube video, where I show how you can save time by using smart shape buttons and grouping objects:

That YouTube video was very helpful in showing how to use the new features in Captivate 6 which I am using to build my own concentration game.

The screen shots in the video of the advanced action scripts helped me understand where you are putting the variables and which action correlates with each variable.

One question, may I see what the script looks like for the Captivate 6 concentration game for the CHECKFIRST? click Advanced Action of your smart shapes? See image to explain where I am talking about:

Thanks for the tip on posting through email. I wasn't aware of that.

Here is the image I was referring to. See the highlighted area. Also, I have been watching a lot of Adobe webinars on Advanced Actions for Captivate to get as much information as possible. Do you have any suggestions for a specific Adobe webinar that will show more about what I need to do with this project? There are a lot of Advanced Actions webinars to pick through.  I have also been to the eLearning Summit which didn't have a lot of training on advanced actions.

I was just wondering how "CheckFirst?" looks in the Cap. 6 version. All of your help is greatly appreciated!

It is the script you need for Captivate 6.0; do not understand your question. You took it from the video, right? I showed in that video the difference with CP5.5.

I offered an advanced action workshop at DevLearn 2012. We even constructed that concentration game in the workshop. Would love to do that again, but so few people are interested in advanced actions, so bit sceptical if it will be accepted again.

I did 3 webinars about advanced actions for Adobe. What are you exactly looking for: more information about conditional actions?

http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2012/04/training-power-of-advanced-actions-in-adobe-captivate-tips-...  first one, bit of an introduction with lot of tricks

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=set_registered&id=2068009&loc=en_us

that one had focus on more complex conditional actions, was never really announced, has no blog post attached to it, you have to go directly to the webinar

http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2012/09/training-lilybiris-favourite-shapes-to-trigger-advanced-act...     about using smart shapes as buttons

Hi Lieve,  I have been creating my own concentration game to use as a tool for people to learn about my organization's eLearning services. I have learned so much from your blog and your webinars on advanced actions. Thanks for all of the information that you offer. I was wondering if you could post the advanced actions script images for all of the actions for the concentration game on your blog.  You have described them, but I am having a hard time recreating all of the actions. I am working in Captivate 6, so your Youtube video has helped to an extent, but not all action scripts are shown. Would you mind to share all of the screen shots for the advanced actions in the Captivate 6 version of your concentration game? This would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hi,

We are developing a Memory Game for Captivate and it seems similar to the requirements that you have specified. If you would like to try it, then send your mail address to dbh@adobe.com.
