HTML5 and IE8,9 with Captivate 6--Issues with Audio

New Here ,
Jan 13, 2014 Jan 13, 2014

I'm publishing recordings using Captivate 6 in HTML5 format for use on iPads, mobile phones, etc.  This issue is that the HTML5 files do not have audio when played in IE8 or IE9.  Is there any resolution to the issue that will make them work?

Hello Michael,

Can you tell me the exact verion of Adobe Captivate (go to Help > About Adobe Captivate )?

If you would be using it on iPad then why are you testing on Internet explorer .

Please test it with Safari or Google Chrome . I.E 8 is not compatible with HTML5 but I.E 9 is .

Thanks and Regards

I am using Captivate 6.0.1.240.  We are a software company so our clients will be viewing the captivate recordings on all different platforms.  These are training videos for clients to learn our software, so some of our clients use IE8 as their browser.  Some of them are heavy in to tech and access on mobile phones and pads.

We know it works fine in Chrome.  That is what we have been using.  It also works on Firefox, even though Firefox gives a popup error saying it doesn't support the full functionality.  All the functionality we are using worked fine on Firefox, though.  Current situation is a large, international client who does not allow employees to use any other browser than IE8, and we cannot ask them to use something else.

Hello Michael,

In this case I would recomend you to check both the option i.e .swf and HTML5 while Publishing.

It would automatically detect the browser and play accordingly without gving any message prompt.

Thanks and Regards

In fact, both IE8 and IE9 score quite low on HTML5test.com. So, as Himanshu suggested, your best bet would be to publish as both SWF and HTML5.

I'm going back and republishing with both options selected, but, I'm not sure how to set up the playback to automatically detect the browser being used.  We are posting these training vids on our website, and the file that runs the HTML5 vid and SWF vid are different file names.  When I set up the links to the vids I have to select on or the other file to run the vid.  How is it possible to set it up to automatically detect the browser?  It would be much better for us to set up only one training link that would automatically run the correct format of vid.

Hi

I think you are trying to publish SWF and HTML5 version individually. Instead, you need select both SWF and HTML5 checkboxes in the Publish dialog box and click Publish.

When you publish that way, and index.html file will be created. You need to provide links to this index file.

That is what I'm doing and the final published folder contains an index.html file that runs the HTML5 and a <name>.htm file that runs the swf (the <name> being derived from the name of the captivate file).  My the index.html file doesn NOT run the swf.  That is the problem I am having.  If it did, there would be no issue because the reference link would work regardless.  It does not work that way, unless that was an upgrade in Captivate 7, but, I am not authorized to update, so I have to stick with Captivate 6.0.

Sorry, my mistake. Please try linking it to multiscreen.html file and it should work.
