Images appearing as Red boxes after Publishing

I'm getting red boxes where visual assets should be displayed on slides, this can be anything from one or two images to an entire slide.

At first, I presumed it might be broken file links in the library, but when an image is used on more than on slide across the project, in one instance it can be displayed fine and the next it will be a red box. I've also tried to look for consistancey in this problem, but no two published files from the same project show the same problems on the same slides, so it appears to be completely random.

The assets are pngs, jpegs and flv videos.

I am using Captivate 6 64bit with an i7 3.40Ghz and 12gb RAM.

Would really appreciate your thoughts. Random bugs that cannot be worked around are a deal killer as far as business is concerned, sort it out Adobe.

I have had the same problem, many times! I just republish and while I do, I walk away. It seems that if I open other windows or do other work while the publish is going on I run into this problem. Also, I broke up my most recent course into five 50-60 page individual projects, but even so, I ran into the red box issue. The biggest pain is that I feel it is necessary to run through each and every slide and animiated build of the published project every time I repub.

I am running Windows 7, 32-bit, I7 Processor, 4GB ram.

And in regards to the settings shared above, I disable Retain slide quality, jpeg 100%, compress SWF enabled, and set each slide to 24-bit (HQ) quality. I agree with danibo83 that those settings would reduce the red box instances, the quality of the published project does not meet my internal clients' expectations, or mine.

One point: If you disable Retain Slide Quality then setting each individual slide to High Quality won't do you any good because you've basically over-ridden the slide quality settings via the project setting in Preferences.

Hi everyone,

I had the same problem with the red boxes. But when I change the SWF settings it didn't occur anymore. I hope this helps.

I had the same problem in Captivate 6 and force republish slides seems to have fixed it

Selecting the "Force re-publish all the slides" check box on the Publish dialog worked for me in version 7.

Thanks!

Hi there

I've seen the red box issue before, but several years ago in a far off galaxy. What it indicated at that time was that you were running out of resources. Red boxes began appearing and eventually the whole screen turned red. So I dubbed it "The Red Screen of Death".

How large is your Captivate output? (not pixel dimensions, although that would factor into the size, but how many bytes? Is it a full motion type of output or a slide by slide type of output?

You might also want to ensure you have the latest version of the Flash Player/Plug In.

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick,

The file is 25mb unzipped, packaged with all the scorm stuff and two videos.

For the most part its a normal slide by slide project. The two videos that are in it are an flv, 5,407kb, and an mp4 230kb.

I'm running Flash player 11.4.402.265

Thanks,

Shawn

Well darnitol!

Specs don't seem out of line. I think they would if you came back and said you had gigs of data, but that's not the case.

Perhaps others will offer other things to try, Have you tried changing compression settings? Look at Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality. Try changing some settings there.

Additionally, when you see the Publish dialog, perhaps try enabling the option to Force re-publish all the slides.

Cheers... Rick
