In V9, do objects have to be ungrouped to use effects?

In V8, I had three objects in a group. Each object had two effects. When I converted the project to V9, the effects didn't work when i previewed. Then I ungrouped the items, and the effects worked perfectly. Has something changed in V9?

Yes, this has changed. You cannot apply effects to individual objects, only to the group.
