Moodle Attempts and Captivate

Hi All,

I have posted a few days ago about attempts in Moodle, but I'm almost finished and a small new problem popped up.

I build an eLearning with Captivate and it contains a quiz at the end with 10 questions. Now I want the user to either have 3 attempts or unlimited attempts (we are not sure yet which we will use). When I set this up with the "Retake quiz" button, all works fine. The problem however starts when I upload the eLearning to Moodle.

Within Moodle the eLearning works and the "Retake Quiz" button also works. But when I use that Retake button, Moodle still thinks it is attempt 1. So when retaking the quiz it will always think it still is attempt 1. So I thought, lets make the user close the training and reopen it after every attempt. Maybe Moodle start reporting the attempts now, but when reopening Moodle remembers that it was closed on the last "results page" slide and will show that slide. So if I take out the retake button, people would not be able to retake the quiz.

Does anybody know how to set this up correctly. Here is what I basically need:

People can follow the eLearning and start the quiz (attempt 1 is reported in Moodle), if not passed they will be able to retake the quiz (i don't mind how it works) when retaking the quiz attempt 2 is reported and so on.  It would still be amazing if the user closes the eLearning on screen 14 that the next day when opening they start at screen 14, but not a must if this interfairs with the Quiz attempts solution.

So the question is basically simple, how can I have moodle reporting my quiz attempts when uploading a Captivate SCORM exported eLearning.

You have to remember that there are different levels of "attempts" involved here, and you seem to be mixing them up.  There's an attempt on the module level, another on the quiz level (within the module) and even another level further down on each individual quiz question.  All of these are configurable but only the quiz question and quiz levels are configured by Captivate.  The module level attempt is configured and controlled by the LMS.

When you launch a module from an LMS, the LMS regards that as one attempt on the overall module, which will only end when the module gets closed down.

While that module user session is active, the user can perform as many attempts on the quiz as they are allowed and initiate new attempts via the Retake Quiz button.

If you want the learner to be able to resume a session where they have not as yet ended all attempts, then you need to make sure Resume Data Bookmarking is turned on in the Quiz Settings > Advanced area.

Hi RodWard,

Totally understand this. But as you stated the LMS takes care of the module attempts. This is were my problem is.

As you also mentioned, the user should close the module and reopen it to make sure a new attempt is being reported in Moodle.

Problem is. If I close down my Module after my first attempt. When I reopen it, it opens the last screen "results" I can only retake the quiz if I would use the "retake button" here. But if I use the "retake button" the use will not close the eLearning, coming back to the problem that the user can retake the quiz but Moodle will report it as still the first attempt. We want to see how many times a student had to retake the quiz before the student passed.

Hope it's clear what i'm looking for. Or maybe i'm missing something, but this is how it's working at the moment.

Then you need to set the allowed number of attempts in Captivate to 1 and this will mean there is no option on the Quiz Results slide to Retake the Quiz.  The learner will need to close and relaunch the module again from the LMS to retake the quiz.  This will mean the LMS records the total number of times the module was attempted unsuccessfully, which is then the same thing as the total number of unsuccessful attempts on the quiz (because only one attempt per session is allowed).
