Motion Path Trouble

Explorer ,
May 02, 2018 May 02, 2018

I have a picture that I have on a left to right motion path so that it goes completely across the screen. My issue is, anytime I adjust the "Appear After" or "Effect Duration" options, it stops mid-screen. Any idea as to why it does this or how I can fix it?

Probably a Timeline problem. Can you please post a screenshot of the TImeline of that slide, with the Effect timeline ecpanded?

Can you please zoom in (slider at the bottom) so that the timeline is better visible. Where is the Effect timeline?  I see two interactive objects, one has a pausing point but it is too small horizontally to help you. And I need to see the effect duration. This slide has a duration of 3 seconds, if you have an effect that is longer it will never be completed, if there is a pausing point it will be frozen.

Much better screenshot but still without expanded effects.

You have two items with an effect: a group and an image. Can you PLEASE click open the effects by pressing that arrow button. Do this for both the group and the image. I am almost sure that they are frozen half way because their duration is longer than 1,5secs and the playhead is paused at that time by Button_10; Understanding the Timeline is the number one stumbling block for all users. My bad. I don't know much about the timeline. I know you can move stuff on it, but that's about it.

One Effect timeline is visible, apparently the gorup has no effect. This effect will indeed be frozen at 1,5secs, its duration is longer, it is 3secs.

I have a lot of articles and movies about the Timeline. Believe me, I have trained a lot of users for Captivate, and the first day of each training is spent mostly on trying to understand that timeline. You can look at the other stumbling blocks in:

Challenges for Starters - Captivate blog

When I presented two sessions last week about the Timeline, even experienced users were astonished about their lack of understanding. My most recent blog post offers some easy tips for newbies:

About your timeine: why is that long? If you don't need audio, that has no sense to make such a long timeline. What is the function of that button? Both the button and the group will disappear after 3 secs, the image will disappear later and only the title will remain till the end.

I have no idea. This is what I am trying to accomplish, but this picture stops mid-screen when I preview the presentation. I've tried changing the settings to the left, but it always stops, UNLESS I put the Effect Duration to like 2. Which I need it to be slowed down just a little more that just 2.

What is that button doing? Why has it to disappear before the end of the slide?

What do you mean? The only button on this is the "Next" button, and it doesn't disappear.

If it is set to 'Go to Next Slide' all the frames after the pausing point of that button have no sense whatsoever.

You have to make sure that everything happens before the pausing point of the button. Since you want to have an effect with a duration of about 3seconds:

  • Select all objects on the slide and display them for the resty of the slide (easy with shortcut CTRL-E).
  • Shorten the slide duration to about 4 seconds by dragging its end point or by using the TIming Properties panel.
  • Drag the pausing point of the button to be just after the end of the Effect timeline
