New Adobe Captivate Problem with Widget! "Something went wrong!" message in preview...

My preview screen in the new Adobe Captivate, released this year I think, is saying "something went wrong!" every time I try to preview it.

I'm currently using the Click to Reveal Widget.

I have copied the slide, opened a new project, and replicated the problem.

I opened a review and the content still displayed the same error message.

I've included photos of the widget as it should appear in the preview as well as a copy of the message screen.

Can anyone help me?

Please mention the full version number, which you can find under Help, About Captivate. The New Captivate was released end of June 2023 but already got several patch releases. The most recent one is 12.3.0.12.

Not a very informative error message.  These sorts of problems can be very difficult to debug with so little information to go on.  I would suggest you reduce or remove the complexity with a process of elimination to find the cause.

If you open a new project and then insert the same widget without making any changes to it (not copying your slide with your current widget) do you get the same error message?  If so, that would indicate there is either something wrong with that widget, or something wrong with your Captivate installation.

If you can create a new project with the same widget WITHOUT error messages, but DO get errors when inserting your images, try inserting just one image at a time and then test.  It could be that there is something related to those images that is causing the error.  Sometimes something as simple as having certain characters in the filename can cause issues.  Also, are these images very high resolution?  Sometimes the sheer weight of the files can cause problems and using lower resolution images can avoid issues.

OK, I will do some testing, have the same version on my Surface.

Are you sure not to use a cloud-based synchronisation like OneDrive? I never had issues with that for previous versions, but for this New version is is NO, never use OneDrive to work on a project.

I'm having the exact same issue on 2 slides using the click to reveal widget.  I too, am on the lastest update of Captivate v. 12.3.0.12.  I have noticed that this started happening when I changed all the states to images and made the hover state 50% transparency.  This slide had 5 click to reveal cards and the second had six.  So I created a new slide with 2 two reveal cards.  When I changed the states for only one of the cards to images including the hover to 50% transparency and previewed... it worked.  As soon as I changed the second I got the error message "something went wrong".  I'm going to try again removing the images for icons and see if it still has a problem.

It definately has something to do when adding images to States.  I've tested all of my images when adding them all to 'normal' states and they work.  As soon as I add them to the visited states (without adding to the hover state)... they stop working.  My .jpg files are like 24kb so it's not a file size or resolution issue.  I think it may be that I accidentally left the 'visited' state enabled prior to previewing and even after attempting to fix it I can't with this slide unless I start back from the beginning.  It hangs on to the 'visited' state and can't display the slide.

My only work around for this is to create a new slide with the Click to Reveal Widget and do not change images for the hovered or visited states.  Leave those states as solid fills.  The other thing to do is to make sure all the states are back to 'normal' for each card prior to previewing or you will have to dump your slide and start again, because once it has an error it must hang on to that code without removing it so it leave the slide in perpetual error without being able to correct the slide itself.

If you've looked at my thread of posts you will see that I was testing the states feature to see why I kept getting the 'something went wrong!' error message when I previewed a slide using the click to reveal widget.  What I noticed was that something was amiss in the 'states'.  I found that the link was 'unlinked' in the click to reveal widget where as it was locked in the button.  I do NOT know how to lock it to test if the state is the issue.  When I click the link to lock it back... it doesn't do anything.  I'd like to see if this is a problem but I don't know how to lock it.  Help!

Just to add on for the workaround, disabling the other states also holds functions and then, if you're like me and hate inconsistency, it will just always display the default state if you are using an image.

I've seen this error before. Mine was on a drag-and-drop slide. I'm going from memory, but I think it was when I added states to the targets; adding to the drag objects was OK. Removing the states didn't help--I had to rebuild the slide without states.
