Pause the presentation

Hi all

I whant to pause/play the presentation using a button or two

I'm new to scripting anyone can give me a hand

I try using the Execute advance control

Name new action Pause

Then set a RDcmndPause=1

can't seem to make it work when user click the button.

What exactly are you trying to pause? The entire slide? Do you want a separate button for that or do you want it to work with the current navigation?

I have a trick that I use to stop my slides so that the learner clicks the forward button in order to jump to the next slide (or they can press Play to continue playing the slide).

I place a transparent button on the slide that stays there for the entire slide duration. I set it to pause after 3 seconds (you can change it to whatever you want). Then my slide plays and stops after 3 seconds....no coding involved. If I have audio on the slide or rollovers, they continue to work. It just stops the slide from advancing on its own. Then, if you want to add a second transparent button, when the user presses Play, the slide will continue to play and it can pause after a certain number of seconds.

Why a transparent Button and not a Click Box?

A Click Box is a transparent Button really and is simpler to use. It will pause the slide too.

Rick,

Can you tell a click box to pause? Oh, I guess you would check "pause until the user clicks." They obviously can't click it if they can't see it.

So yeah, a click box would work just as well! There you go...two solutions!

I woud like to pause the prentation and of course the slide.

I also have sound, if sound could be pause too , this will be perfect.

I really like to do this with a button instead of the control of the presentation

HI SolidDNA,

Yes even the sound can be paused when the button pauses the presentation.

For this you need to do the following:

1. Double click the button to open is properties dialog.

2. Goto the Audio tab.

3. Check the "Stop slide audio when paused" checkbox

I assume you are using Adobe Captivate 4 since this facility is not present in Adobe Captivate 3.

I was able to pause the sound, but the slide continue

But i guess that i am not clear enough

i have a slide with audio when click a button the slide continue so the audio can play.

I would lke to have another buton that user could click to stop/pause the slide and audio

I was looking at doing this using the Execute advance control

Also tis raise a nother question tht i should ask ina different post but let strt here

How can we go to a specific time i the presentation?

Hi Solid DNA,

I believe what you intend to do can be achieved from the playbar:

The highlighted button can be used to play/pause the presentation. This would pause your audio as well. You could have a caption(which would be put up for entire presentation) which says, " Click the playbar play/pause button to play/pause the presentation".

I really appreciate all the suggestions, but my request was to make this thru the advance action opton so i can "program" a button to pause/play/stop the presentation.

The playbar is good to control the whole presentation. Here i have local actions that need to be done inside a slide. Unless i can make a playbar appear inside a slide, the only solution is to "program" a button(s).

I have uploaded a file at https://share.acrobat.com/adc/document.do?docid=bb0421f0-d221-477a-a163-3230d746d0be. I simply used two buttons and added the advanced action to them. It works for me. If you could verify that you are doing the same and it is still not working, we can check it.

To use this copy the swf to CaptivateInstallFolder\Gallery\Widgets. Launch Captivate. Windows ->Widget.

Insert the widget from Panel (This is an AS3 widget) on the first slide of project. In widget properties set Display for rest of the project.

the variable is case-sensitive and should be spelled rdcmndPause

to pause, set the value of rdcmndPause to 1

to play, set the value of rdcmndResume to 1
