PowerPoint to Captivate 9 - Why are there hyphenated words?

Hello, 

I imported a Powerpoint file into Captivate (version 9.0.1.320) and found that Captivate has inexplicably hyphenated words that were not hyphenated in the PPT file.  I re-saved my Powerpoint as a PPTX, imported the slides into a different project, and it did the same thing.

For example, the word "disability" became "disabil-ity" when brought into Captivate.  "Discrimination" became "discrim-ination".  

Of course, Captivate converts the slides to images.  I cannot edit this text so I suppose I'm stuck with it, but I would like to understand why this occurs.  I tried searching the forums but could not find a related discussion.  I'm pretty new so if anyone here can point me to a previous thread I'd greatly appreciate it. 

FYI if it helps I cannot run Captivate as an Admin (sigh) due to my company's data security protocols.

I never  use PPT to start a course in Captivate, cannot help you with that aspect. Much better to start from scratch, using the assets from the ppf (you can unzip the folder) and drag them into the Library of new Captivate project.  Here is just one suspicion: for very illogical reasons PPT defines everything in 'print units', illogical to me because a presentation is meant for screens, not for paper. That is the case for the size of the presentation, and for font sizes. Poor Captivate, which uses 'screen units' since it is also meant for screens, has to convert everything when importing. That may explain what you experienced.

Reason for popping in:  can you update your version? The most recent version for 9 is 9.0.2.437.

Thanks for your suggestions Lilybiri!  I did not know you could convert PPT to a zip and import items into your library, i will definitely use that method going forward!  I'll need to request an update from my IT dept (again, data security policy).  Thanks!

PPT is a zipped folder, just like a cptx-file is a zipped folder. Unzip them and you'll see the included assets.
