Is there a work around ?

Will not be possible out of the box with the now available Pretest feature. In previous versions I did use custom question slides for that, questions that I created using standard objects, where the score was not added to the Quiz total but stored in a user variable. But then you have no random questions either, so not possible. Do not see a workaround, unless you do not have to report to a LMS. For random questions you do have to use normal question slides. It is possible to keep the score of the 'pretest' in a separate user variable, make decisions like branching based on that variable, create a score slide both for pretest and real test but when reporting to a LMS all quiz slides will be considered part of one Quiz and the score will be the total score of all quiz slides.

Lily,

I was thinking about your answer and I just came across this widget

http://www.dorna.nl/category/alles/widgets/random-number-advanced/

Do you think there would be some of using it to go to a random slide ?

"With my Random Number widgetyou can fill a Captivate user variable with a random number. Now also the Advanced version is available for free. With this widget you can fill multiple variables at once with a random number. You can specify whether the numbers must be unique and if they must be sorted.

In the zip file contains not only the widget, but also an example in Captivate 5 (also works in CP5.5 and CP6)."

Sure it works on CP6.1? I have used that widget before but not yet on the latest version.

It is an idea, but that would mean that you need to have all the questions of the pool inside the file itself for the pretest. And scripting will not be easy. Should have to think about it.
