problems playing video in Captivate 8

I am attempting to convert a MOV video into an FLV or F4V format, using the Media Encoder, and then place the FLV video into my Captivate project for viewing.  But my converted video is coming over with audio only.  Is there a way to fix this and get the file to play properly? 

I've experimented with a number of different outputs from the Media Encoder, but no matter what I bring into the Library and place on my slide, I cannot get it to play.  Sometimes I get only a black box, other times I get a black box with audio only.

    OK, I found a somewhat wacky solution but it works and is now my new workflow!

    I can upload the MOV files to my YouTube account and then download them as MP4.

    Captive then successfully imports the MP4 movies.

    Still not sure why the Media Encoder could not handle the conversion, but that was apparently the problem.

    I've only previewed the file, not published it.  I cannot see the video in the preview, only hear the audio.


    This may be a Captivate preview issue, try publishing to a web server or playing from a folder on your hard drive.


    If it still doesn't work, then I'd ask: Can you play the video in flash player?

         If not, it's a conversion issue. If you can, it's a Captivate issue.

    Also, do you have access to the complete source file?

    I've run into problems where someone has given me a video file that been clipped from a longer original, via copy and paste. You may need to convert the whole video to FLV, then edit the FLV down to the length you want to play.

    Thanks for all the ideas!  I am suspicious that it is a conversion issue; trying to play it flash player sounds like a great idea to test that.

    I may also try converting to MP4 first in another program (perhaps on a Mac, which is where the MOV file came from originally), and then seeing if that will successfully import to Captivate.

    I am publishing to HTML--it's a responsive project.  However, I've only previewed the file, not published it.  I cannot see the video in the preview, only hear the audio.  I also cannot see the video when I try to play the slide from the filmstrip in the timeline box at the bottom of the screen, although I can see its bar and hear its audio.
