Project Charm

Participant ,

Just watched the keynote from Adobe eLearning World 2021. The new version of Captivate, code-name Project Charm was quickly demoed. It looks like the interface has been majorly updated/changed. I'm not sure if I have ever seen an application get such a drastic change in one go. I'm not saying Captivate didn't need it, but we all got used to the way it was.

I hope the demo was a very simplified demo - I did not see a lot of the advanced features we use on my team. I hope they are still there.

I'm also curious if there are changes to the Captivate player code. We use the JavaScript API and widgets very heavily. I hope we do not have to re-work all those for this new version.

It looks like creating responsive eLearning migh be a little easier in this new version.

What did everyone else think?

I'd love to be in on this. I was on the Captivate beta team for the Mac version a million years ago, for version 5. And I used to develop widgets for it. I have heard some good things about Project Charm, and I'd love to get a chance to beta test it.

Captivate 5 for Mac was released. It was also part of eLearning Suite 2. Here's a news item about it:

JavaScript humor, anyone?

Here's my solution:

var today = new Date()
var waitNoLonger = new Date('April 1, 2022 01:00:00');
if (today > waitNoLonger) AND (charmAnnounced == false){
	buyStoryline();
}

I suck at JavaScript ( which is in part why I use Captivate ) but I know enough to understand your messages.  Brilliant!

Must still be beaming the invite to Mars...

Hmm. So you were in the private beta? The one we are waiting on is the public beta, which was announced in September of 2022. It is a little odd that it makes reference to the fairy godmother thing that was part of the hatching egg but gets the beta type wrong as private rather than public.

Perhaps you got out your copy of Photoshop and decided to mess with us all? 😉

Are you still waiting? It's been another 3 months, and no-one is talking about testing Charm

Well actually, when Charm was announced in November at the eLearning event, it was said "the public beta will be available this year". While that may not be a specific date - it was 'this year' e.g. 2021. 6 months have passed since then so it's not unreasonable to assume its several months late.

Maybe instead of swinging in here with smart comments about how people 'do not understand the word private' - maybe realise you're talking to another eLearning professional who attended the eLearning expo and has been following updates. Including comments from yourself on several threads hinting that Adobe are late with this.
