Recover deleted cache files.

I inadvertently cleared my cache...All of my files disappeared. I tried the fix for Captivate 9 but it did not work. How do I recover the files?

That means that you stored the files in the same folder as the cache? Can you check that in Preferences, General Settings?

Captivate has no fix for that, but there are apps around that could perhaps recover the deleted files.

They were not in the same folder. Those numbered folders saved on the root of the desktop and the cptx files were in a separate folder two levels down. When I clear the cache, I was trying to access a file that was freezing the program after I opened it. Someone suggested I should first clear the cache, then clear unused stuff out of the library. When I cleared the cache it wiped out everything...files and folders. It's hard to believe Adobe wouldn't send them to a recoverable place on the computer. Surely I am not the only person this has ever happened to.

Default locations are not set up like you described. The cache and the files folders are different folders on same level of the Documents folder. Since you had the files in a subfolder of the cache folder, when you cleared the cache folder all subfolders were cleared as well. Who did change those default settings?

No, sadly you are NOT the first person this has ever occurred to, though fortunately it is rare to see this mistake.

Adobe trusts that YOU are the person who knows where the safest place on your computer would be to save your files.  And when Captivate is first installed it DOES by default set up SEPARATE folder locations in your My Documents folder for your project files and your Project Cache.  Adobe would never set up the system in such a way by default which meant your CPTX project files were a couple of levels down inside the Project Cache folder because everything in the project cache gets deleted when you Clear Cache.

As Lieve has pointed out, someone has obviously changed the Default Locations on your system so that they were set up in this very unfortunate manner.

Maybe I am still not understanding...The numbered folders (which I am assuming are the cache files) go to a Documents folder: This PC\Documents\Adobe Cached Projects.

My .cptx files were going to a folder here: This PC\Desktop\Backup\Project Online. I can understand the folders being cleaned, but shouldn't the actual .cptx files have gone to the recycle bin like every other file that is deleted?

David, the delete cache button doesn't send the cache to the Recycle bin, cache folders are really deleted.
