I am using a pre-test to see if a learner qualifies to take a “refresher” course or must take a full-length course. My project starts with a series of question slides (the pre-test). If the learner gets a failing score on the pre-test, no problem - they jump to a slide that tells them to exit the course and take the full-length course (a separate Captivate project). The score is passed to the LMS as Fail/Incomplete. If the learner gets a passing score on the pre-test, they jump to a slide that tells them they passed, but they still must complete the refresher course. There is a Next button that takes them to the refresher course content, which is at the end of the project containing the pre-test. The problem is, if the user exits before reviewing the refresher content, the score is still passed to the LMS as pass/complete – even if they don’t review the refresher content. Is there a way to send a failing score if they don’t complete the refresher content? Thanks!

It appears that you must not have any Quiz questions at the end of the Refresher content, correct?
If the initial pretest is the only quiz in the lesson module, then passing it is effectively passing the whole module. By default, Captivate only allows you one 'quiz' per module and it starts the quiz scope from the very first scorable object in the movie and ends scope at the last scorable object in the movie. Your Quiz Results slide (if you have one) can only be placed after all scorable objects in the slide order. If you put quiz questions or some other interactive scorable object at the end of the Refresher content which is required for the learner to pass the entire module, then you lose the ability to evaluate the user's score (via the Quiz Results slide) prior to the Refresher content.
One possible solution is to set up a dummy Quiz Results slide after the initial Pretest questions that uses Advanced Actions and System Variables (specifically the ones for scoring) to evaluate the learner's current score at that point and tell them whether or not to continue or jump out to the full course. However, the feasibility of this would need to be tested because my gut tells me that Captivate may only expose the scoring variable results for reading AFTER you've reached the final quiz element in the project. It might not do any evals or scoring calculations before then. (I've never tried to access scoring variables progressively throughout the quiz question sequence. So I don't know if this can be done. Maybe someone else more familiar with the variables can chime in here.)
If this suggested solution proves to be a dud, your only other option is to break out your Pretest as a separate module to the Full course and Refresher courses. This way, the Pretest stands alone as a quiz, and the Refresher course content can have it's own post test quiz, or even just a scorable button at the end which the learner must click in order to pass the Refresher module and satisfy the LMS Pass/Fail/Complete/Incomplet status.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm leaning toward making the pre-test a separate project.
