Question

Resetting "dpi awareness" doesn't work

Hi

I tried to record a software sim and got the DpiAwareness error.

So i changed DpiAwareness = 0 to 1 and took the recording.

When I finished I changed it back to 0 - the text on the monitor remained very small.

When I :

  • open up AdobeCaptivate.ini it says DpiAwareness = 0.
  • went to record a software sim again no error message is displayed.

(so i'm assuming CP thinks DpiAwareness = 1, would that be correct?).

I've closed CP and rebooted etc.

Below is my setup and contents of my AdobeCaptivate.ini file.

(maybe i copied CP 2017 ini file by mistake?)

Thanks

Donal

    I ran into this today.

The windows 10 notebook has 2 external monitors, and the one internal display. I am unable to record a video project from this system. When i launch it, Cap simply disappears without throwing any errors.

First I got a message saying that the size of the display fonts was an issue so i set them to 100%, then i got the DPi issue.

    I tried the following:

    - Disable the internal monitor, making the 2 external the only monitors = Fail

    - Run as Admin = Fail

    - Run in Compatibility Mode (windows 8) = Fail

    - Change the Dpi indicator in the ini file = Fail

    Thoughts?

You need to record on the primary monitor.

    This does not work either.

If I take the notebook out of the dock, with the font set to 100%, and run Cap as Administrator, with the DPi set to to 1...the application still vanishes as soon as I ask it to do a video capture. The application will run if I ask for a software simulation. However, if I try to add a video into a simulation file that I have previously started, the whole application simply disappears without any warning or dialog explanation.

Hmm, that is strange. I never had that problem.   What happens when you take off the external monitor? Screen capture should be done on the primary monitor: which is the laptop. That laptop doesn't need a change to dpiAwareness at all since it is set to 100% and has a small resolution. Same for the external monitor: HD doesn't need it neither (I am capturing on a such a monior). I suspect it is linked with yout setup.

    Hi Lieve,

I always work just on the external monitor.

When i went to record a software sim it displayed the DpiAwareness message.

I changed the ini settings - the text on the external monitor went very small.

When i finshed the recording i changed the ini setting back to 0 - thinking that it would change the text back but the text is still very small.

Now when i try to record a softwareware sim on external monitor no DpiAwareness message (even though DpiAwareness is set to 0).

    Laptop screen is set to 1366 x 768 - 100% - text is fine.

But when i extend the display on to external monitor the text is very small.

Could you check your ini file to see if it matches mine - so i can rule that out.

I never use that dpiAwareness change because I kept an old system with a normal monitor  1980x1200) where I can record without changing that variable. My other systems all have retina screens, and if I change the setting it would also lead to that very tiny view, where it is impossible for me to capture (have bad eye sight).

It looks like a problem with the two-monitor setup. Can you check the display resolution on the external monitor?
