restoring captivate 9 files

Hi,

the external hard drive I was using for captivate files has become damaged and I am unable to retrieve my captivate projects from it.  Is there a way to retrieve from the cached project files as they are on my computer.  I had tried to use the instructions I saw from 2015 about making a zip file in the db folder but this did not work for me.  please help!
