Simulate the SHIFT and CTRL keys using Captivate8

How do I simulate the SHIFT and CTRL keys?  I can simulate a combination using the Shortcut, but not just a single key stroke for SHIFT or CTRL.  I am pretty good at using Captivate out of the box but have never created a Widget or Script or Advanced Action and I am thinking this is what is needed.  Usually if I can get an example of one thing I can figure out how to modify and create my own.  Are there any resources or manuals that would help.  I looked in the Adobe Manual but couldn't find example of what I am looking for.
