Sorry to ask questions back to back but I'm having real trouble with the slides that have video content. I have the slide properties set to play the video for a certain amount of time, after which the slide should progress to the next slide - but it doesn't.
My settings for the video are set to "play for the rest of slide" - I don't know whether I'm doing this backwards.
Either the slide properties should be set for a specific amount of time (however long the video runs for) or the video properties should be set for a certain amount of time. After which, in either scenario it should go to the next slide WITHOUT having to use a "next" button..
Any answers?
Thanks!

Instead of setting the video for "rest of slide", have you tried just having it set for the time duration of the video. And ensure it isn't set to "pause" at any stage. Then ensure the properties for the slide are set to jump to next slide.
Look at all other objects on the slide and make sure none of them are set to pause the slide.
I'm not sure why you don't like the idea of a "next" button. You could have it set so it doesn't appear until the video is finished if you don't wan't people skipping the video.
Anyway, hope something here helps.
Cheers,
Kerry

Hi Kerry,
Thank you SO much! It was the Back button that had a "pause" set and I guess that was holding up the whole slide. I didn't realise "pause" being set on the buttons would affect the rest of the slide - but then, I didn't understand how to pause a button in the first place!
I just set the slide as suggested - video set to specific time, changed the slide properties to just "go to next slide" and it seems to work perfectly.

Hi there
Coming in on this late. But I have some tidbits you may find useful.
I'm unsure of the video format you were using, but if it is FLV, note that the Options tab for FLV are set automatically so the slide is paused until the end of the video. This means if the video is 45 seconds long, you may freely insert it on a slide timed for 3 seconds. The slide will stay put until the video completes playing.
As you have already discovered, Buttons and Click Boxes will always pause any slide you insert them on until the user clicks.

Hi Rick,
I am using FLV files but the issue I have is that once the video is complete, the slide simply remains static and doesn't move to the next page. The slide properties are set to move to the next slide upon exit... but nothing happens.
My workaround has been to play the FLV for a "specific time" - but it's a painful solution because I have to figure out the minutes and seconds of the FLV and then manually enter it in Captivate.
Thanks for your help!

Hi again
Odds are that you have a Button, Click Box or Text Entry box on the slide too. If so, these objects will pause the slide until they have been interacted with. So you will need to either configure them to remove the pause or maybe remove them entirely.

Hi,
I have a caption box and two buttons and none of them are set to pause (I double checked!) - I can't remove them as they're required for the course but Kerry suggested I have a "next" button appear after the time duration of the video. I think this is probably the simplest solution and it allows me to simply insert an flv, check the slide properties for the duration and copy paste that time into the "Next" button properties (Appear After: X seconds).

Hi there
Can you please post a screen capture of your Captivate edit area where we can see the Timeline? Hopefully the slide is short enough that it all will fit.
When (or if) you do this, please use the little camera icon next to the smiley face icon to post the image.
Cheers... Rick

Hey Rick,
Here's the pic but the shortest video file in this course is 44s so it doesn't show it from start to finish in this pic.

Hi again
Hmmm, yep! But if you look at the Timeline area, look in the upper right corner. See that magnifying glass icon?
Click it and you get a menu. Choose Tiny.
Then screen cap the Timeline. Also try not to shrink it too much as the quality suffers and we may not see all we need to.
Cheers... Rick

Sorry for the very very tardy reply! After changing the FLV to play automatically, pause the slide till the video was over and changed all slide properties to "take no action" on exit (so that the only way of moving forward was clicking the "next" button) my branching view came together perfectly and it's running fine. Originally the client wanted the slides to progress automatically (and that's where I was having an issue) and after a couple days of consideration they decided they wanted the slides to progress ONLY by user interaction.
So thank you for all your help! This issue has been resolved for me.
