Survey responses not reporting to LMS

Using Captivate 2017, I added 2 Likert scale and 2 short answer survey questions to a project.  The project also has several graded quiz questions.  When I pull a question analysis report from our LMS (Cornerstone/CSOD), I can only see that the user responded to the survey questions.  I can't see what their response was, the way I can with a graded quiz question.

I can't believe that there is no way to see this data, otherwise there's no point in having survey questions available in Captivate.  A different team in our company is responsible for LMS portal settings, so we are allowed very little input in this regard.

Hoping someone has some suggestions or possible work-around. I'm comfortable with advanced actions but can't see a way to use those to accomplish this goal. I have no experience with JS but am willing to explore that option if needed.

Thank you both for your patience, apparently I just needed some time to wrap my head around what you were suggesting!

My initial concern with using the graded quiz slides was that it would skew the quiz score. (I may have also been too stubborn to accept that the survey slides simply don't work the way I feel they logically should.)

I did want to share the direction I decided to go, in case others with limited LMS reporting run into the same issue.  All of the blog posts the two of you shared were helpful, but I still couldn't quite put the pieces together for the big picture until this discussion.

I ended up using MCQs and numbered the responses 4-1 to create a Likert scale. My plan was to set the point value very low so as not to skew the actual quiz scores for the user.  Instead, I found that I was able to set the point value to 0, something I wasn't able to do in the past... maybe an enhancement in Cp 2017 that I wasn't aware of?

I was also able to use short answer questions to capture free form text comments as well by setting the validation to '.'  This way, any comment of substance is considered incorrect and is displayed in the LMS reporting.

So far, these 0 point questions don't appear to impact the quiz score or accuracy percentage, so as long as I remove the 'Total Questions' and 'Correct Questions' from the results slide, I'm able to use the built in results slide as well!

Thanks again for your help!

Maybe you should download the table with the Quizzing System variables, link is in this article:

For using quiz slides instead, could you not setup each rating question as a simple multiple-choice quiz type (with the option to select just one answer)?

Options A-D, with A being 'Strongly Agree' down to D as 'Strongly Disagree'. In the supplied single-choice quiz slides, you check one item, it unchecks if you select another (or you have to uncheck before you check another, I forget which).

I believe you're correct about being unable to assign points to Likert questions - my apologies on that misdirect.

However, I believe the survey responses should be reported as 'interaction data' to your LMS. Whether your LMS accepts such data, or reports on it, is up to the LMS features.

Here are a few references that discuss this, the last two from Lieve detailing a bit more of her responses (which perhaps you've seen):

Where can I find detailed instruction on how to set up Likert quiz slides in Captivate 7?

Erik, my understanding so far is that there is no way to assign a point value to the built-in survey questions.

Lilybiri, unfortunately our other options for surveys aren't much better. I did dig through some of your blog posts related to this topic, but as you said above, all options seemed dependent on being able to report user variables to the LMS, which at this time, we aren't getting.

I toyed with making a custom slide where each selection on the Likert scale was it's own button, then we could include in quiz but not add to total, and simply tally how many of each response buttons were clicked. This would work with the limited reporting we have.

The issue I ran into was if a user clicks 'Strongly Agree' but then changes their mind and clicks 'Agree', then both buttons have registered as clicked and would be reported.  I am stuck there because I don't know a way to 'clear' a clicked button from being reported.

Thank you both for taking the time to respond, open to any other thoughts you may have on the matter.

That is the reason I turned to regular graded quiz slides in some of my blog posts, if a result of the survey was necessary.

For you custom survey questions, do not use scores that are linked to the interactive object directly, but reproduce the set up of the regular slide, by adding a Submit button which will trigger an advanced action. It is a lot of work, are you sure not to be able to use regular quiz slides?

This one is very old, but has links to explanations about another survey set up without quiz slides:

Captivate is certainly not a good survey application. Lot depends also on the LMS. I have been blogging a couple of times about using other solutions for survey: regular question slides, custom question slides. All is based on being able to transfer values of user variables to the LMS.

It's been a while since I worked with surveys in CP, but I think you have to assign a point-value to each option (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4).

That can make things complicated if you're scoring the quiz...but if you're not scoring, that may be a solution.
