TIming with Text Entry Boxes and Buttons on the same slide

I am about to pull what's left of my hair out.
I have buttons at the bottom of all my screens (next, back, and home). I added Text Entry Boxes to a slide. After a few seconds the slide becomes "inactive" because of the settings on the buttons. I took the time setting off the buttons, but the Text Entry Box REQUIRES a "pause after" setting.
Do I have to make this 99 seconds, or is there some other way for the slide to remain active while the student figures out what they are supposed to enter in text entry box?
Your help (and ideas) is/are greatly appreciated.

Hi Larry
I think you may be overthinking it. Sure the slide will pause and wait for interaction. But while it's paused the user may still type into the Text Entry Box.
Personally I've never had a need to time a slide longer than perhaps six seconds.

Rick - I may be overthinking it, but I still can't enter my text in the box after 3 seconds. The timeline below shows (a little blurry) the settings. I have a Click box pausing after 3 seconds. All 3 buttons at the bottom pause after 3 seconds. And the Text Entry Box pauses after 1.2 seconds.

Hi again Larry
Can you share this project in order to see it first hand?
From what I see in the image it would appear things should be working. So I'm a bit perplexed.
Cheers... Rick

I was trying to prepare the file to send to you and I realized the problem happens when I click anywhere on the page. The text entry box cursor blinks for a long time, but once I click on the page, anywhere, then the cursor goes out of the text box or stops blinking. It's on slide 23 and 24. Slide 27 is a similar slide but it doesn't have the problem. Slide 28 does have the problem. I hope you can help me.
The file is 4.8MB. I hope it makes it.

apparently, the first version was too long. Here's a shorter version. The problem is related to when I click on the slide.

Dear Robowizard - Is there somewhere else I can send the file. I am getting the following message when I try to attach the movie:

Hi there
You could use a service such as YouSendIt (you can get a free account) or TransferBigFiles or you could just send me the file to my personal address.
