Question

Vimeo content

Captivate 9, Windows 7 Enterprise, IE 11 - I tried using the web object (not the Learning Interaction) with the Vimeo embed code. The first frame of the video displays, but when I preview the presentation, all that shows up is a black slide. The progress bar moves, as if it's playing the video, but there's no video or audio. So I tried with just the web address. This time, instead of the first frame of the video, I get a Vimeo banner. When I preview the presentation, the same thing happens -- black screen with no audio or video and a moving progress bar. Anyone know what's up with that? I saw another post where someone talked about something similar but said the Vimeo forums said it was corrected back in 2016.

So I tried a blank slide with an "On Enter" action of "Open URL or File" and used the web address of the Vimeo file with "?autoplay=1". This works great -- it goes to Vimeo and plays the video. I even used the "outro" option in Vimeo to place text on the screen after the video plays to tell the learner to close that window and click the forward button to continue the presentation. But... is there an option similar to autoplay what will automatically close the Vimeo window when the video is finished? I really don't want any user interaction if I don't have to use it.

Not 100% sure but this could be an issue with your Vimeo embed settings.  Sometimes the video will be public but the embed can still be set to private.

If you want more control over your Vimeo videos you may want to consider using the Vimeo API.  You can use this to trigger end of video events - like advancing to the next frame, etc.  Here's my blog post about it:

Don't rely on 'Preview' to evaluate the true results of your project.

Preview is great for a quick check...but if something isn't working the way you suspect, publish the piece and get it up on a webserver for a true test. There are too many browser security pieces that can make local previewing unreliable.

If you're setting the proper Vimeo URL in the web object (pretty sure it should be the 'embed code'), I suspect you'll see it show properly when you run the piece from a website or LMS.
