Hi,

We have created some recordings in Captivate, but the voice over volume is inconsistent. Please can you help with this?

I look forward to your support and hearing back from you.

Many thanks

Oz

    Hi Oz,

Audio is a voodoo art. As Rod suggested if you have CC license then you can try to equalize the volume, that may or may not work, depending on what shape the originals are in, like most batch process. Definitely worth a try if you have it.

You may have to resort to doing each individual file, although you might want to try the global audio volume level in Captivate for all of them. It depends why they are low. Did your narrator use different settings when recording? Was farther away from the mic during certain takes? Did you use different narrators?

All these factors *may* play into how it sounds, some can be corrected via the global volume setting others can't.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    Hi Oz,

When you say "just finished recording" Do you mean you recorded it yourself, imported .wav or mp3  files or used the canned Captivate Voice Over files.

If you recorded yourself or imported, you need to check that each recording is set to a standard level and that you recorded each recording using the exact same set up. Distance from Mic, volume settings etc.  In short you want to make sure the source files aren't the problem.

If they aren't there is a global volume setting in Captivate to increase the overall volume for all narration. You can find it under Audio Management.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. We recorded into Captivate. We are thinking of perhaps managing the volume within Captivate for all individual slides as this might solve the problem because the recordings have already been done and we won't be able to redo them. Do you think this will help and do you have any other suggestions please?

    Many thanks in advance.

If you already have all the audio files AND you happen to have a Creative Cloud license then you can use Adobe Audition to batch process the files and equalise the volume across all of them.

I record all my own audio directly into Captivate from a boom mike at my desk.  If the voiceover artist is experienced, there should be very little difference in volume between all files.

    Weird.

I just finished a whole course using VTT. The volume levels for me were fine for the whole course.

What version of captivate are you using? I am using CP10. Maybe you need a patch or upgrade?

I would recommend calling adobe customer support and let them figure it out for you?
