I've done some digging around via Google searches and forum searches and am not able to just find an answer to this question: What it it designed to do?

This is for CP8.

Thanks.

I found this description in the CP8 users manual, available at http://help.adobe.com/archive/en/captivate/8.0.1/captivate_reference.pdf

Set exit to normal afer completion Restarts the course from the first slide when users launch it again after successfully completing it once. If you select this option, the cmi.exit value is set to ‘Normal’ when the status changes to ‘Completed’. note: This behavior is consistent in SCORM 2004-based LMSs. On SCORM 1.2-based LMSs, the behavior may vary. For such cases, check with your LMS administrator for assistance.

The unpredictable variation in Set Exit to Normal with SCORM 1.2 is probably the reason why it's no longer available for selection in Captivate 9 if your project is NOT set to SCORM 2004.

I believe it's supposed to remove all data from the current session. I would think it would also change the entry mode to review. But I haven't seen that part work.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So if it removes data from the current session, how does that manifest itself in what the learner is seeing and doing?

When you say change entry mode to review, is it entry mode as far as entering data, like replying to quiz questions? Not sure what exactly entry mode is.

In what instances do you enable it and disable it for your courses?

It should make the course in a state like the user entered the course for the first time.

The entry.mode is set by the LMS based on certain criteria. If the entry mode is review, there is no credit and the user should be able to freely navigate. The course basically becomes an Electronic Performance Support System.
