Question

What is the best way to handle PDF's

I am using SumTotal Learn (version 17.1). As part of a Captivate 2017 eLearning course I want the participant to open and review a policy. I have tried both a click box and a button to open the document. In both cases, you have four options:

1.      New

2.      Top

3.      Parent

4.      Current

The New opens in either a new browser tab or a new window altogether (we have tested several computers and the behavior is not consistent). Our concern is that the employee will not be able to “find” their way back to the course window/tab. eLearning and working with an LMS is new for most our employees. I have added some text and audio guidance to assist, but still not confident L

I can’t see a difference in the other three options. All of them open in the same browser tab with no way to go back to the course without closing the browser and restarting the course.

Any suggestions on how to best handle this?

Why not consider putting this PDF document within a web object? That way there is no issue of users being distracted away from the eLearning project as the document will reside within a scrolling iframe on a page of your course.

New is the best way and you can not control how a user sets up their browser, so it may open in a new tab or new window.

The others would more that likely break any connection to the LMS.
