Hi all

Looks like Adobe has announced Captivate 3 will possibly begin shipping as early as next month!

Click here to read about it

I see Adobe is now accepting preorders. Click here to see that.

Cheers all... Rick

Any word on whether there is a printable certificate option at the end of a quiz?

    Hi tothebeat

I don't believe that was an option that was added. Then again, haven't installed the trial yet to see what made it in and what didn't.

Just downloaded the 30 day trial, have the official one on order but i only bought Cap 2 two weeks ago so i need to talk to Adobe to see if theres something they can do.

Do like the look so far of Cap 3. Read on the Captivate blog that theyre after ideas for Cap 4, hopefully that wont be out too soon ;)

LOVED the demo I saw of Cap 3 today. Has anyone downloaded it yet? We are upgrading from 1 to 3 so it is pricey (we have multiple developers) but looks worth it. Anyone have any direct experience yet?

I was able to toy around with it during the beta and it seems much more stable than v2. The full motion recording is great and the rollover slidelet is an great new feature. Can't wait to start working with it.

From the blog of Silke Fleischer - product management and marketing for
    Captivate...

Also, if you purchase Adobe Captivate 2 within a certain grace period after
version 3 has been announced (after 7/23/07), you are entitled to receive an
upgrade to version 3. There are rules and regulations around that you have
to follow - best is to contact customer service once version 3 starts
    shipping.

Phoned up Adobe UK today, as i bought Cap 2 on 9th July and Cap 3 upgrade on 23rd then they said i will be okay for the free upgrade. Cant use Cap 2 as i have to return it but the Cap 3 upgrade is fine.

I 'think' if theres 2 weeks or less between ordering products you should be fine

The demo for Captivate 3 is out, but it's requiring a serial number to install. What do I do?

Yes. Thank you. I got caught up in the microwave society we live in and I wanted the answer in 15 seconds. Sorry

I see where you've answered my question as prompt as you answer everyone else here. Thanks for all you do.

I just bought Captivate 2 at the end of May, so I've only had it for 2 months. I have heard that if you buy a product within a certain time period before they release a new version, then the product upgrade is free. Is this true? At the time I bought, I searched and there was absolutely no info about a version 3 releasing soon- there was nothing official from Adobe and the best estimates from the forum said it was at least 6 month away- otherwise I would have held out. I am running version 2 on Vista and it doesn't play nice, but I see version 3 works with Vista so this would be a good upgrade for me, but I can't afford another few hundred dollars on a product I just purchased.

    Hi Rabet

Naturally, as we are not official Adobe employees, all we may do is speculate. If I were in your shoes, I'd be contacting Adobe sales and asking some of these questions. My guess is that if you express things in the right way, you may well end up with a gratis copy of Captivate 3.

You have to first ask though. All they can do is say no.

    Cheers... Rick

    Rick,

Would you recommend calling or emailing as the most effective method? If calling, do you know if 800-833-6687 is the correct number to call?

Any news on the text entry box handling?

Cap 2 is pretty poor at it. No - dismal at it

Word wrap in text entry boxes?
    Formatting text entry boxes?
Single keypress interactions that aren't tied to a region on the page (press 'p' to pause, that kind of thing)?
Monitoring text entry to progress without needing to press a certain key or click an interaction?
    Drag & drop?
    And of course: right click?

Chiming in about features and price. I've been running a software company for about 11.5 years and I started with this product before it was owned by e-Help. I have beta-tested and enjoyed each new version over the prior. But I have my concerns and hopes and here are the big ones for me:

    1. We are support fanatics and our users are now fanatics about us. But Adobe has not been able to fix things and has NO support deployment plan for this product. Perhaps they have one now, but lets be honest, I have not seen it or heard about it so lets just guess that they have no patch plan at all unless the product name is Acrobat. The lack of patches for the repeating problems found on this site is also not a good sign. The lack of a real patch for the e-mailing feature and of course the sound card issue (quiet patch for those in need) was too late in coming along. NOTE TO ADOBE - LEARN TO BE FANATICAL ABOUT SUPPORT!

    2. Price -- Well we charge a lot more than that for our annual updates. But yes, they are annual and not at the 9 month mark. I think that any application that saves time is worth the investment. If you do demos, if you need 75 screen shots of your application in a word.DOC file, if you need to do podcasts and you need training demos, then this product is quite good in Version 2.0 and it looks like they got still more kinks out. But "Price" to me is not about price and features, it is also about the net cost, time savings and frustration that a product brings. It is a combination of price, features and support that make things rock for my world. The volunteers on this site are "Saints" for being so patient with Adobe. Real support requires patches and when features require work-arounds they are not as intended and should be fixed. No excuses Adobe; fix stuff, support stuff and don't be known as an excuse maker and don't hide behind problems by issuing NO patches. Quarterly is a minimum and it should be how Adobe operates, not how we wish that Adobe operates.

    3. On the other hand, I am delighted to see the reviews for the new Adobe products and the press has been quite kind. The Adobe Flash-based product family is getting better integrated and that means more consistency across some products plus the "experience" gained from programming these Flash-based products. We should see that in Captivate 3, but Adobe needs to share the Adobe knowledge with teams and they should have a Flash Czar that oversees the consistency and shared knowledge of the different teams. To date, we have not seen that in Captivate.

    4. They have competition and that competition is quite good. There are web-based Flash products, Quarbon, MDM Studio, Screen Flash and Turbo Demo, plus some GPL license applications too. But IF adobe gets their support issues working and the integration with other Flash products on more common ground, then why would you want to go anywhere else? But this level of support requires the above changes or it will just be another version of Captivate and not the star that it could be.

    5. Patches and Updates - I am not naming the company, but one of the software tool providers that we use (for programming controls) has a policy to issue annual updates at about $500.00/upgrade and still fix all bugs in the prior version for one year from the release of the new version. We hate their upgrade price, but we greatly admire their support.
