Youtube Interaction - what am I doing wrong?

Guest
Feb 06, 2014 Feb 06, 2014

(Captivate 7.0.1, Windows 8.1, WAMP server, Drupal 6)

I find my youtube video and copy this url:

Capture.JPG

I paste that into the interaction dialogue like this:

Capture1.JPG

... and I get... nothing, zilch, nada.  I publish the result to a local WAMP server and get nothing.  I put it on a public-facing server and get nothing.  I get nothing in both Flash and HTML5.

Update: In Flash I just get white space; in html5 I get a player, but then it just shows "This video is currently unavailable".  I've tried videos from my own channel, (both unlisted and public), and just normal popular videos.

Hello ,

When you enter this url (http://youtu.be/29LaFpj08-4)  in interaction windows , just to the right of it , it gives you a button to test the url.

When i tested it it gave me error message " This page isn't available. Sorry about that. Try searching for something else." .

Then i tried to Copy and paste the url which was in the address bar of youtube video window (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29LaFpj08-4&feature=youtu.be) , it worked

So could you please change your url and try to publish aga

I just added the same link and tested on a Win 7, XAMPP server and it is working fine. Clearing your browser cache might help.

Can you tell me if you see any embedded videos at:

www.ldnh.co.uk/sites/default/files/test/multiscreen.html

I always test everything on different browsers and this is happening to me in all browsers, all with their caches cleared.  I have some tablets kicking around too, and they don't show the embedded youtube stuff, either.

Something completely weird is now going on, and it seems to be related to my Adobe account.  On my main machine, all my interactions except for 'millionaire' have disappeared.  If I sign out of my Adobe account on that machine and sign on at another Windows 8.1 machine, I've got my interactions, but the YouTube interaction produces white space as before.  So then I signed on at a Windows 7 laptop; this time, when I try to select the YouTube interaction, I get a message saying, "Not a valid interaction".

That's it, you've cracked it.  You have to use the URL in the address bar of the browser, rather than the one given to you on the YouTube page under 'share'.

Hello ,

Could you please check the exact version of Adobe Captivate you are using (Go to Help > About Adobe Captivate) ?

Could you tell me the output you have published ?

Please change the browser and see if you still have the issue and also test the same behaviour in a new blank project as well.

Thanks

Hello,

I have Captivate 7, version 7.0.0.118. Not sure exactly what you mean by output I published to, but when publishing I chose swf/html5. I published to a folder and moved the folder to a shared drive.

the YouTube interaction works perfectly when previewing in the web browser, but not when published. It does not work in Chrome, nor IE. I just created a new project, and still did not work once published (but did in web preview).

not sure if this means anything, but i did a video demo and that works perfectly in the published project.

here is a copy of my widget properties.

thanks!

UPload it to a web server instead of a LAN server or else configure Flash Global Security:

Bit off topic: please install the patch (free) that will upgrade you to the latest version 7.0.1.237.

It is free for everyone, subscription and license buyers. So it should be applicable.

Thanks Lieve! I know, I am kinda confused as to why it's not working. Funny thing is, my company pourchased this license only 3 weeks ago...here is a screen shot of my message.

Also interesting is my Updates option under Help is grayed out.

You have to contact customer support, to know what is wrong. Bit strange that you got the old version when you bought it only that recently (after the release of the patch).

Hello,

Please go to this location : \Users\[username]\Local\AppData\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\

There will be a file by the name AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat Please rename it to AdobeUpdaterPrefs123.dat and then try to install the patch again.

Please make sure while doing this Adobe Captivate should be closed

Thanks

Thank you-

I wasn't able to find that drive, however the 32 bit update worked. I now have Cp7 7.0.1.237. After installation and rebooting, i created a new blank project with the youtube interaction. Unfortunately, same issue. YouTube plays in preview but not when published to our web server. Not sure what my issue is....

You might want to try and publish to the SCORM Cloud and see if it works there. Since you've published to both swf and HTML 5 it's possible that the server you are publishing to has blocked iFrames. If you are viewing the content from a non-mobile device it should be using the swf output which I believe is still an iFrame. Loading an external URL into a file may also be blocked on your server for security reasons.
