Can Captivate convert Camtasia projects?

New Here ,

I've got a project on the horizon that involves taking a video created in Camtasia and Captivating it. Is there a way to convert the original Camtasia project for use with Captivate 3? I didn't see anything in the software or on the forums that was definitive.

If that's not possible, does anyone have a recommendation for taking a completed video file, removing the original audio, so it can be redone in Captivate? From what I could tell on the forum, .AVI and .FLA got a thumbs up on video quality. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Marty

There's no way to convert Camtasia files to Captivate files that I know
of... They work in two distinct approaches - Camtasia recording the
screen activity as a movie, Captivate recording the activity as screenshots.

The only way I can think of to do such a conversion is to play the
Camtasia movie and Captivate it as it runs.
Or, perhaps open the Camtasia file and save-out (export?) individual
screnshots and assemble them 'manually' in Captivate...though that would
seem more time intensive!

If you want to edit the original to pull out the audio track, you're
really going to need Camtasia itself. But that may not be needed if
you're going to just run the file and Captivate it instead (just don't
record the audio).

I don't think you can export Camtasia to FLA so not sure how that would
help. Plus, if you could, you'd have Camtasia anyway, so may as well
just pull screenshots instead of trying to Camtasia > FLA > Captivate.

Hi kidogo

In addition to what Eric said, another possibility exists. If you have Macromedia Captivate 1, you could use that. Also, you would need to create a .AVI file from Camtasia. Then you could use Cap 1 and create a project based off the AVI. This would produce a project with several slides. From there you could move to a later version of Captivate.

Just a thought... Rick

I was afraid this project might be ugly. I sounds like it may be. Thanks for your help. I'll give one or both of these a try when the project arrives.

Thanks,
Marty
