Hi!

Tried to create my own Pause/Play buttons for a video but it doesn't work. Seems like i can't "connect" the actions to the video or slide. Plus, i cannot make my replay button replay the video or slide.

Hope anyone can help me.

If you chose to insert the video as an Event video, that would be the issue.  Re-insert the video and this time choose Multi-Slide Synchronised as the type.  Then the video timeline and slide timelines are locked and pausing the slide timeline will also pause the video.

Yes, that was the issue. Thank you Rod!

But how come it needs to be inserted by synch video and not event?

As Lieve explained, the timeline of a Multi-slide Synchronized video is locked into the timeline of the project slides, whereas the timeline of an Event video is not.

You wanted to be able to add your own buttons to the slide and have them control the playback of the video on the slide.  With Synch videos that's easy because Captivate offers the ability to use Advanced Actions to pause or play the slide timeline.  But those buttons won't affect Event videos because their timelines work independently of the slid.

Captivate DOES allow you to add a special Skin to an Event video (there are several skins to choose from) and these skins will allow your end user to click playback buttons on the skin to control the video.  This is usually the preferred solution.

    Ok I see.

I've seen these special skins and there's nothing really wrong with them. However, it doesn't go with my companies graphic guidelines, so therefore they are never used here.

Anyway, thanks once again for the help! Really appreciate it!

I am not totally sure if you are really talking about a video inserted in Captivate, as Rod probably supposes, or if you are talking about buttons for a cptx project to be published to SWF or HTML?

As for the Replay Slide button, maybe have a look at my blog post:

    Hi Lilybiri!

What I mean is that I want to add a video, just a regular short videoclip of a person introducing something.

In addition to that, I want to create my own buttons; backward/forward, replay and play/paus (these two i'd like to be the same button) for the learner to use for the video.

But i can't connect the video to these buttons, except for forward/backward but those are for the slide.

It would have looked great to have these buttons shown only when learner click somewhere on video which then pauses. And continue when Play is pressed, replay when pressed and so on. But i can't get it to work.

About your Replay slide button: i did try that but i didn't work for the video. Is this what Rod meant, i can't use Event video for this?

    Best,

    Sandra

Indeed, to have video controlled by Captivate it has to be synched video,

which is the other type, multislide. Bit confusing term because you use it

    also on one slide.
