I am using Captivate 4 with Adobe Technical Communication Suite.  To what formats can I save a Captivate project?  I need to save a Captivate project (comprised of PPT, screen caps and quiz questions) as an MPEG or other video file that is compatible with any windows operating system.  Thank you, Sarah

    Hi there

    Strictly speaking, Captivate projects may only be saved in one format. That format is the .CP file.

    Based on what you wrote, I'm assuming here that you are really referring to the types of output formats Captivate is capable of producing.

    Captivate 4 can produce the following outputs:

    * Flash SWF presented in an HTML page

    * EXE format

    * AVI format

    * Microsoft Word document

    * Adobe PDF

    Anything beyond those formats will require you to feed the output file into some type of conversion utility to arrive at the new desired format. I might suggest that the SWF/HTML format is more widely compatible than MPEG. Additionally, you mentioned Quiz Questions. I don't believe those would survive the trip to MPEG world. To my knowledge, all one may do is view an MPEG file. You cannot interact with it in any way.

    Thanks for the quick reply Rick!

    You're right, I'm referring to output format.  We'd like to allow other users to view this information.  The ability to answer quiz questions would be nice, but for the main purpose PPT and screen caps will do what we need.

    The users needing to answer questions will be able to download Adobe AIR.

    I'm new to TCS and finding it intuitive and fairly easy to get started.  I'll attend some training to be able to fully use the many product features.

    Thank you again,

    Sarah

    Hi again

    I'm confused. What does AIR have to do with it? SWF is a pretty universal format. That's what makes it so popular. Nearly any browser any more is already equipped to present SWF output. That's why the typical output from Captivate is SWF/HTM. You just post the content to a Web Server and anyone with a browser views it as they do nearly any other HTML page.

    Cheers... Rick
