How to recover lost work in Adobe Captivate 5

I hope you're day is going well Adobe experts. I have created a captivate file using Captivate 5 and the software crashed and lost a days work (twice today).  I know I should have been saving all along but I wasn't aware that there is no autosave (or is there? haven't been able to find that option).  I found files in the Adobe Captivate Cashed Projects folder with the file extension .cpd in the uncompressed files folder. Also found audio.cpad, info.cpi, and text.cptd files in the Cashed Project folder.  Are these the files I was working on and is there any way of restoring these types of file or using this information to retrieve my captivate?  Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm desperate to get this work back.

Also if you have any help or information as to why the software keeps crashing today to prevent it from happening again that would really be great!

Thanks!

    Hello,

Just in case the Adobe team doesn't pop in to explain the workflow with the Project cache, here is a link to the Iconlogic blog, where it is explained in detail:

Cached projects can save you some cache

    Hi,

There could be some resources which might be causing the crash. Could you please share your file and may be tell us a litlle bit about work flow and the contents you are putting in your project?

Crashing so often is kind of strange. Also could you tell us if you see a pattern of those crashes i.e does it crash if you follow a particular workflow or do a certain things?

Sikandar, thanks for looking into this.  Yes crashing is totally rare and had not happened before yesterday.  I discovered this morning that my security software was causing my computer to end the process with Adobe Captivate.  The software was not infact crashing but that my ISP was performing changes to my router which interfered with Captivate (and how mad am I with them GRRRR).  The pattern I noticed was that when Verizon, sent a signal to update my security software Captivate would stop responding and close.

Lilybiri this worked WONDERFULLY, unfortunate for me that the cached file that I needed saved no objects in the objects folder and didn't save the thumbnails.cpth file either so I was unable to retrieve my work but now I know for the next time that there may be a way! Thanks!

    Hi there

Unfortunately there is no autosave feature in Captivate 5. There is, however, a feature that creates a backup file. But I don't believe it is enabled by default. When it is enabled, a BAK file is created as you work.

To check to see if it's enabled, click Edit > Preferences... > Global > General Settings.

Aside from that, there may be a way to recover through some arcane steps of piecing together some of the Project Cache. But one of the Captivate development team would have to offer help with that.

Captiv8r thanks for the advice, I did have the backup set but even the backup somehow turned out to be an older version of my work and not the updates I'd made all day.  Thanks for the reminder to review preferences when you load new technology
