iPhone Plays Video in Native Apple Player

I've got a video playing in my Captivate 9 html 5 project on the very first slide.  When viewing this on the iPhone, the native Apple player comes up to display the video, rather than displaying it from my project itself.  This does not happen with the iPad.  I know this has been an issue in the past, but I'm wondering if there are any current solutions to this problem?  I would like to get rid of the native Apple Player in my project.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hello,

I'm facing this native player issue in latest iOS11 update. I'm using videos in my captivate project and also have a custom navigation buttons for navigation within the project. Each time the video slide gets displayed the video pops-out into the iphone native video player and all my custom controls were sent at the back. Please help in solving this issue for my project.

Thanks

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,

I'm looking for a solution for this problem since months and was in contact with some captivate experts and the Adobe costumer support. There is no solution right now. Often I hear that e-learnings are ment to be for desktops and tablets. Therefore they aren't faced with the problem, that interactive videos created with Captivate doesn't work on iPhones.

All we can do is to show Adobe how important this "feature" is for us creators.

My suggestion is to fill out the following wishlist and to explain the bug:

Feature Request/Bug Report Form

And to call the Adobe Support, the more the better.

Greetings from Germany

@all: The following is not at the right topic at the forum, but the kind support, that I called today, asked me to do so. He told me also, that they are working on the video inline issue at the iPhone currently

.......

@adobesupport:

There is a problem with the autoplay of captivate HTML5 projects on every mobile devices. You can find the discussion about that problem here:

Remove The Play button & White Screen that shows on mobile Adobe Captivate 2017

There are some workarounds, but it would be great, if the autoplay is working nativly over all devices.

With that you can easily build interactive media and integrate that on every homepage or other captivate projects without clicking the "start"button again (on mobile devices).

That this feature is working on mobile devices can be found on:

Greetings and thanks for your help

Unfortunately there's nothing Adobe can do at present. Apple made the decision that on the iPhone and within iOS Mobile Safari this setting cannot be countermanded.

Thank you Paul for your fast respones. Since 2016 with IOS10 Videos can be played Inline in Safari. And there are many examples that Show that it is possible. So I think it would be possible for Adobe and for good programmers, that i am not, to costumize the files to achive the right result.

Or what do you mean with countermandend?

Florian

Hi StevePixel,

you are right, learners with older IOS builds will face with the same issue. But it would be great to build lessons which are future-proof. And i'm not sure but don't they have the possibility to update to IOS 10?

And it is really disappointing that other companys outperform Captivate in this discipline. A client wants this interactivity in his videos, and that must work for Iphone as well. Maybe Captivate will publish an update like Storyline 360.

@Paul_Wilson:  Did you already get more information on how to implement this function to Captivate?

Best regards

Florian

Hi Florian,

That is my point. Captivate can take advantage of the Apple Update. Storyline hasn't updated anything in regard to updating a new feature. They are simply advising you of a new Apple update that now allows users with the newest IOS 10 build that they can now view videos in-line.  But you are correct, it only works for new IOS 10 builds, whether you are using Captivate or Storyline.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Jeff,

I have the same problem. I produce interactive videos, but when playing on the iphone my buttons which I created for the interactivity are been hidden by the native ios video player.

I've already contacted the adobe support twice without any luck. Cause they are not responsible for costumizations.

Normally the solution is to at webkit "playsinline" to the "video tag" in HTML5 code. But I have no clue how to do it with the exported files from Captivate.

Maybe one can start the video with an javascript code to add automatically the "playsline" or to prevent the native player?

Has anybody an idea how to play videos inline on iphones?

Thank you very much

Florian
