Sharing a Captivate 2017 (trial version) project online

Hello Captivate Community.

I am doing a course right now for which I created a project using the Captivate 2017 trial version.

I need to share the project with my instructors. I also want to add the project to my website as it could lead to new work in eLearning projects.

Here is my dilemma: at this stage I was not planning to purchase the software unless I need it for client work.

Can someone help me with:

a) how do I best share the project with my instructors?

b) is there a way to add the project to my website on my trial account and what would that be?

Petra, I have two suggestions.

The first is to contribute a few things to the Adobe eLearning Community. My suggestion is to write a blog post about a feature that you found interesting during your use of the trial. This will gain you 100 points within the community and write a testimonial, which will get you another 50 points. 150 points in the community will increase your standing from Newbie to Guide. More importantly, it will award you a 3-month complimentary license of Adobe Captivate 2017 that no longer has the limitations where your published work will expire in 30 days of publication. Check out my video on how to publish your Adobe Captivate project to an Amazon S3 account. You can get 12 months of web server space at no cost to you. Even now, I'm in my second year of this service and I have spent a grand total of $0.18. Really! I use this service and the free Cloudberry upload software to post sample projects for my client's review almost every day.

I have been contributing to the eLearning community in exchange for complimentary copies of all my Adobe eLearning software for quite some time. Even with the three additional months on top of the trial, you should have no problems developing a good portfolio to share with your professors and others interested in your skills.

Paul. Thank you so much for your detailed advice. That has been really helpful. I had looked at a number of your videos but the one to publish to S3 escaped me.

I just watched your video and looked at Cloudberry Explorer and realized this is a Windows limited application. I am using a Mac. Do you have any insight into a Mac friendly solution to upload these files to Amazon S3 so they will work as a course? I have tried direct upload but that does not seem to work.

You can actually upload to your Amazon account through a web browser (Cloudberry Explorer is just a little easier). You can just navigate to your s3 console https://console.aws.amazon.com/s3/ and upload through your browser. Rod pointed out the limitation in time, both for the raw cptx file and for the published content. All depends on what your instructor wants to see: only the published output (expires after 30 days starting with the publish date) or the cptx-file to see how you created it. Beware: the 30 days for the raw file starts with the date you started to use Captivate.

Content created with a trial version of Adobe Captivate is time limited to 30 days. So you won't really be able to use this content on your website as examples of your abilities unless you decide to purchase the app and publish AFTER that.

If you're just wanting to share the content with your instructors then 30 days should be long enough for them to take a look at what you have accomplished.

Hi Rod. Thank you for clarifying the use of the trial version for me. While it was not what I wanted to hear (ha, ha) I now realize I need to look for another way to get the extended use of the license, perhaps following Paul's advice below. Appreciate you taking the time to add your response!
