Is that background part of the puppet's artwork? i.e., if you switch to the Rig workspace, is that same background appearing in the Puppet panel? if so, that background layer can be hidden by toggling its eyeball in the Puppet panel.

So, is it not possible to specify a specific color or image in the scene background settings?? The only thing that pops up is the image that Francisco posted. Anything different has to be rendered as transparent, sent to PP or AE then rendered out with the specific color or background? Please tell me I'm missing a setting somewhere.

Not in that scene Background popup window, but if you have access to the original artwork, you can add a solid or other image as the bottom later in that file, or import a separate file of that solid/image and import it into the project and scene positioned below the puppet track.
