Character is not centred in After Effects - position of character moves during render!

I've been using Character animator in After Effects for about two years, and something unusual has just started happening. Not sure if it's a bug or if it's an issue with how I've set it up.

In any Character scene that I create, the character model is always placed in the centre, and appears in the centre of any preview. However, when I export this scene (either by linking the Ch file in AE, or by rendering out from Character directly) the character model suddenly moves to one side of the screen and overlaps across to the opposite side.

I've had a look and there are no hidden objects in the character model, and even if there were, surely the Character preview would show it. This happens with every character model that I've tried, and happens in different After Effects projects.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

This looks like a known issue introduced in the 23.5 Windows builds of After Effects, AME, and Premiere. It caused those versions to be incompatible with earlier 23.x versions, which is especially problematic for Character Animator since it hasn't needed an update since 23.1 so even with the latest versions of all apps, Character Animator will show the issue.

So if you need to use Character Animator (23.1), you'd need to run 23.4 builds of the other apps you need to use with it. (the 23.5 builds

I made an error in my post - it works exporting from Character directly, but doesn't work when exporting from AE directly.

I had the same trouble yesterday. I've switched to Ae 23.4 and Ch 23.0, for now, everything seems to work like before. I hope it will help 😉

(the 23.5 builds work together, but not with earlier builds). Once a newer version is released (like 23.6 or 7), it should work to use matching builds, but anything that involves mixing 23.4 and earlier with 23.5 builds or later via Dynamic Link on Windows will have problems.

Hopefully that helps to clarify the problem and how to work around it in the interim.
