Can I rig once then keep rigging for a family of characters?

Hello,

I've set up a 3 view character who walks both ways and looks pretty good. Is there a way to save all the rigging and just change the hair/clothes/facial features? When I make a copy and  edit the puppet in illustrator it loses some or all of the body part rigging. Please help 🙂 I would love to have a set of characters I can easily edit.

  • Make a copy of the original artwork file in PS or AI (like Chlose2.psd).
  • Make a copy of the puppet in the CH project panel.
  • Select the puppet copy in the project panel and click the blue link in the right properties.
  • Pick the new artwork file and click OK.

The puppet should update with all your rigging intact.

a little trick that i use. 

I use Photoshop to create characters. When I try it, I think the rigging stays if the layer included in the rigging stays. So in Ps I put the original layer that included in the rigging underneath and make a new layer on top, modify the image, and merge it with the original layer below. It's a little bit annoying but the rigging stays well.

if i have so many layers to modify, i just re-rigging 😄

 

but if there's the way to save rigging format only that'll be so great..!
