Hi.
What is the best way to have my character walk along a scene, then stop explain, and continue walking? I want to import it into AE to add the things the character will be explaining.

If you want the character walking in place, you can apply a transform to the background, putting keyframes exactly where the behavior starts and stops.

I have tried and still unclear on how to accomplish having character walk, stop to explain, then continue walking along background with him walking completely out the frame.

Correction: Without him walking completely out the frame.

Walking is a complicated behavior in CH. Let's start with the basics. Is your character walking? If so, how do you want your character to walk in relation to the background? The original post implied that the character would be walking in place, is that correct?

Hi.
The character is walking. I want my character to walk as if he is walking past objects. Character will not be walking in place.

Thank you for the clarification. It sounds like you want to use the position-based walk behavior. In the walk behavior, change the mode from immediate to Position-based. Then use the position setting immediately below it to set up your start and stop keyframes. I'll try to set up examples when I have more time.

@oksamurai does an excellent job describing the process for walking in this video: Walking (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial) (youtube.com)
In the image below, you can see where I've changed the walk behavior from "Immediate" to "Position-based." Use the position data to move the puppet to the start position and click to the left of the "Position" tag to set the first key frame. Then pick a spot close to that on the timeline to move the puppet to and set your second keyframe (this happens automatically as long as the stop watch icon is visible). You will see the "diamonds" in the timeline indicating where the key frames are. You can always move to a different spot in the timeline and click on the hollow diamond to the left to set up a new keyframe where you want to start the walk up again.
