In the rigging, when you select a node (such as the shoulder or jaw) you'll see a "layer" menu on the right side. By default, the attach style is "weld," but you can change it to "hinge" or "free." Experiment with it and see what works for you.

Yes, that particular problem is solved. I didn't realize the key codes had been deprecated. Still having problems with the nested movie clips not playing, but I'll start a separate thread for that if I don't find a solution.

Funny thing about that. I'm using
document.onkeydown = checkKey; function checkKey(e) { e = e || window.event;
//etc.
}
And it works. Who knew?

I've searched the forums for an answer but can't find what I'm looking for. I'm trying to convert some AS3 code to javaScript and I can't figure out the syntax for the left and right cursor keys. This is what I've got in AS3:
function keyDownFunction(event : KeyboardEvent) : void { if (event.keyCode == 39) { walkerSpeed = walkerSpeed+1; } if (event.keyCode == 37) { walkerSpeed = walkerSpeed-1; } }

If I understand you correctly, you want to have a viseme with multiple frames? You should be able to do that by using the Cycle Layers behavior. The Red Monster puppet uses this on the Aa, Uh, (2 frames) and W-Oo (3 frames) visemes.

Currently, there is no way to automatically generate arm/hand or other body motions based on an uploaded audio track. Just mouth and head.

I'm not familiar with the way puppets are handled in Adobe Express. However, in Starter version, you're sort of confined to the triggers for poses. Those triggers still exist in Pro mode, but you'll also have the ability to use body tracking to make gestures with your limbs while you're recording. Body Tracking (Adobe Character Animator)

Yes, that's the shorthand Adobe uses for it. Sometimes I get in a rush and forget myself.
You're using the same version I'm using, so I have no idea why it's not displaying all the options. Sometimes the desktop won't make some things available because it thinks there's a compatibilty issue. For instance, you can't install Iluustrator on a machine using an ARM processor. I'm just guessing, since this is all way beyond my area of expertise. There's a forum for the Creative Cloud Desktop, maybe you can find a solution there. Creative Cloud desktop - Adobe Community

Most likely the puppet is responding to the music in your audio. If you cannot get a version of the singing without the music, you might try recording it yourself. Once you have the proper visemes, you can replace the audio track for your final video.

There are other ways. For instance, you can pose the character the way you want it and set up a replay that will trigger the pose at the touch of a button. You'll probably want to set it up so you can edit out any transitional animation. This video covers the topic: Replays (Adobe Character Animator Tutorial)

Perhaps the quickest way is to export the puppet to make a duplicate and then "Edit Original" to reposition the pose in Illustrator or Photoshop - making the default position the pose you want. Editing Puppetmaker files can get a little tricky, so make sure you have a back up. Once you've saved and updated the new puppet, you will probably have to go in and fix the rigging. I know I'm throwing a lot at you, does this seem feasible?

That is a conundrum. Someone out there probably has a better solution, but if it were me, I'd consider having multiple puppets for the specific poses and make that particular puppet visible for the shot.

As I suggested, you might want to try using "Compute Take from Scene Audio" to see if you can get the program to record visemes from a previously recorded audio track.

This particular puppet will not register the two non-neutral facial expressions because those expressions do not exist in the puppet to be displayed.
As for capturing movement, I would suggest taking steps to make sure you have adequate lighting and a background free from clutter (if possible).

I took a look at the puppet you've selected and the reason you're not getting any "smile" or "surprise" reactions from it is that there were none built into it in the first place. There are only 3 possible mouth shapes that the camera will recognize: smile, neutral and surprise. If you really need the surprised expression, you can edit the original puppet (either in Photoshop or Illustrator - both are and option with this puppet) and copy the "Oh" layer and rename the copied layer as "Surprise."
I can't tell from the image whether or not you're getting audio and visemes recorded. But the image does show your microphone is active, so you shouldn't be having any problems getting audio. Another option is to record the audio as a separate wav file and use "Compute Take from Scene Audio" to get the correct visemes for your dialog. Sometimes when I can't get just the right motion, I have to isolate the part in the recording and record each part separately. Also, not being in the center of the camera and having too much clutter in the background can sometimes interfere with the motion tracking.

You could do the text in After Effects. You could set up your narrator in Character Animator and then export using the Dynamic Link directly into After Effects. I suppose it depends on how much text you need to do.
