CF 2018 to CF 2025 migration error

Hello all,

I've been asked to assist with a departments migration away from CF 2018 due to CF 2018 being EoL.

Unfortunately, my experience with CF started with this project and the two previous admins that assisted with the CF 2018 setup are no longer around and I'm unable to locate any internal documentation to reference.

I'm following the migration documentation for CF2023 since I can't find a 2025 guide.  After installation of the 2025 server configuration using the 30 day trial and setting it up as a development environment, I land on the admin login page/migration wizard.  After logging in and clicking to start the migration wizard, I hit an error page wth the following error, "migrationcf2018_export.cfm can not be found"

I've followed the manual migration steps as well by stopping services and copying over the neo-*.xml files from cf2018/cfusion/lib in addition to copying over seed.properties and modifying the adminconfig.xml file to point to CF2018.  I then start the services and attempt to access the admin console, but it still fails in the same fashion with the same message.

I've tried searching for others that may have ran into the same error, but keep running into other unrelated errors posted around the web.  My apologies for any omittied information.  This is all new to me.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to resolve the CF 2025 migration wizard error, but were able to migrate via CAR migration from 2018.

My installation is stuck at the cf2018 migration step (missing files error). How do you get past that step to load the admin interface?

Noel, while the original problem (of the missing files) might be solved by obtaining them from Adobe at the email offered in the comment above, as for your asking instead how to SKIP the migration process I might have an answer for that.

I did a blog post back in the cf11 timeframe where I documented the file and lines you'd need to edit to cause cf to stop trying to run that migration wizard (once you'd told it to run but it fails). Granted, that focused more on when the migration page was hanging, while yours is erroring. And even though it's from several years ago, the file and its format remain the same (just use a path and values suited to your later cf version).

See my post, specifically the final section, 'Setting the "wizard" to not run at all'.  No cf restart is needed after going that.

Let us know if that gets you going.

Also, let us know if you get the files needed from Adobe or elsewhere. (I'm writing from a phone and so can't offer them to you, if it may be as simple as copying them from a cf2023 or 2021 install.) Or maybe someone else will offer them, though in an earlier comment above you sought only "an official Adobe download source".

@User_Unavailable and @AbhishekJha , I hope you did eventually identify and resolve the issue. If so, could you please share?

The cause has been identified, but the solution tested didn't resolve the issue.  Troubleshooting is still ongoing with the help of Adobe support.

Both migrationcf2018_export.cfm & migrationcf2018_import.cfm were missing from C:\ColdFusion2025\cfusion\wwwroot\CFIDE\administrator\setup.  Both missing files were manually added to the folder after a reinstall, but a different issue presented that's still preventing migration.

I'll post here once an ultimate solution is found.
