HD Webcams compatible with Adobe Connect Meetings?

Logitech is releasing several new HD webcams and I am wondering if they are compatible with Adobe Connect Meetings.  The one I am thinking of getting is the Logitech HD Pro C910.  Is it worth getting a better webcam for our meetings/seminars?  Can Adobe Connect support HD video (I think I saw in another thread that it crops/distorts it.

thanks very much for the help!

In my experience, no. I purchased the Logitech C910 which works great with WebEx & Tegrity but not Connect. It's not that the quality isn't good; the device doesn't even show up in the Settings window so I can chose it. Very frustrating. An Adobe rep told me that I should get any webcam as long as it's not HD, so I bought a Macally IceCam 2. Still no luck. Maybe someone here can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

The Logitech C910 should work with Adobe Connect just fine.  Actually, Adobe Flash Player is what talks to the camera and OS. Adobe Connect uses what Adobe Flash Player is connected to.  You can see which camera Flash is looking at by going into a Connect room and anywhere on the Connect desktop right mouse click, then go to the last tab on the Flash control panel and there should be a drop down that lists webcams/camcorders, etc. that the PC/Mac is connected to and can use. If that camera is not listed there, then there is an OS issue.  Go to Windows control panel and look at the devices control panel.  Take a look and see if WIndows sees it or not as a video device.

Today, with Connect 7 or 7.5, the rate of camera support is artificially set at 10 frames per second. So, HD cameras work with this but they won't be any better than say the webcam built into your laptop.  Connect version 8 is due for release in Q4/2010 hopefully and it will allow for HD cameras.  You will have controls to support various camera options including IP based cameras.

I myself have one of the Logitech HD cameras and it has a native wide angle lens which works very well with Connect 7.5 and the picture is better because of it's wide angle view but it is not HD quality inside a Connect room.  Understand that even if you have HD support, the recording mechanism inside Connect to record the session would not support that format today.  All of that has to be updated including the Flash player needed for Connect 8.

Stay tuned.  Your camera will be supported going forward.
