Acrobat 8.1.3 Professional Patch Failure (MAC Intel)

Or, you can uninstall and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch'
Adobe support said I am no longer eligible for support on this CS3 product. NICE....really great!! NOT- I just wanted them to point me in the right direction because I can't find anything about this on the site. Plus, when I upgraded to CS3 it was a download (won't make that mistake again) and my download file .dmg file for the suite has an invalid checksum - NICE again - can't re-download it from my account because it's not there, don't know why it's not, so I can't reinstall it.
Can someone help me with this? How can I fix the Acrobat Professional (MAC version) Thank you.

I'm having the same problem. I use Preview to view my PDF files anyway, it's faster. But why can't we install an update Adobe says we need? I've paid for this version, why can't we use it? Adobe Support or someone that knows should get on the stick about this.

I guess there aren't enough folks with this issue for Adobe to care about helping to fix it. Very frustrating. I have no reason to upgrade to CS4 at this point and time and frankly can't afford to do so - $600 for an upgrade in this economy is not an option. So, if anyone out there has a fix please please share. Thanks.

The solution Kitekart provided completely fixed my problem. I no longer have Adobe Updater telling me that I still haven't installed Acrobat 8.1.3 after I installed updates 8.1.2, 8.1.3, and 8.1.4 consecutively. I noticed also that while this problem was occurring I received no new updates, and that after I corrected it, I had a lot of backlogged updates that downloaded after.

Finally all mentioned solutions did'nt work at all, but while rummagging in some other threads, I've found a solution:
First I've tried the workaround of 'Kirsten' (http://forums.adobe.com/message/1150030#1150030) post # 15:
...Did you previously run the updater as a different admin user on your system? Try the following to remove the bad updater file:
1. Select /Applications/Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional/Adobe Acrobat Professional.app
2. Ctrl+click and select "Show Package Contents"
3. Go to /Contents/Resources/AMT/
4. Delete the file AUMProduct.aup
5. Relaunch Acrobat and try updating again
...
but I still was'nt able to update 8.1.3.
While I was at it, I controlled the 'Resources Disabled'-folder and found the 'fr.lproj'-folder in there. I just put it into the
'Resources'-folder and - hey presto! - the update was working!
(Maybe the content of the 'Resources Disabled' -folder differs - Im using the european version of CS3 on a Pro Mac)
Since that time everey Adobe update is working pretty fine (up to date Acrobat Prof 8.1.5).

Thank you, Christian (C.Vogel), for the post...the removal of the (apparently damaged) updater (suggested by Kirsten) worked and I was able to install 8.1.3. After that, the log jam broke and I sailed through the updates to date.

kitekart's solution worked perfectly for me too. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.4, and was having the same problem with update 8.1.5. I just downloaded the patch from the Adobe website and it installed painlessly. Thanks kitekart!!!

I tried kitekart's solution but when I tried to manually install the very first patch (8.1.2),and it asked me which copy of Acorbat Pro I wanted to update, it would not let me select Acrobat Pro 8 from my apps folder. I could select the main folder but the App itself was grayed out. I double checked and I am on version 8.0.0. Any ideas?

OK, I went back & read kitekart's post again and realized I needed to start with the 8.1 update. Tried it and same thing happened: the Acrobat Pro 8.0.0 app is greyed out!

For anyone having this issue, make sure that you have not removed any localizations from your installation(s). For example, running "Monolingual" or similar applications. Doing so will cause the Adobe Update to fail because it requires all languages to be installed for Adobe products. Very un-Mac OS X behavior, but there you have it.
Note that uninstalling and re-installing Acrobat causes the language packs to be re-installed, which is why doing so typically (but not always, see link) allows the updater to work.
