need help with extra" text box - unable to choose and delete

Hi, I have a line of text but right in front of it is another text line that I can't seem to highlight to delete. Part of screenshot is below. you can see the "extra" pink section for text. on the second, 3rd and 4th, the "extra is behind text; on the bottom ones, it's in front of text. thank you in advance for any help. I'm new to this so could really use the help. thanks again!
