Why am I being required to give my date of birth?

Why is CC suddenly asking for my DOB and closing if I decline to put it in?? Adobe doesn't need my DOB for any legitimate purposes and I'm not comfortable providing it, as it makes identity theft more of a risk in the (not all that unlikely) event that Adobe gets hacked or leaks user data.

    You must be over a certain age to order Creative Cloud.  That's required to ensure you're of legal age and can understand the terms of your contract.

    So why not just have a tick box asking the user to confirm they are over 18? You don't need their date of birth, and there is no proof that what they say is true anyway. I am also uncomfortable in providing this information and think it is unreasonable to demand it.
