Adobe Digital Editions - Why?

Community Beginner ,
Mar 25, 2021 Mar 25, 2021

I have a very simply, starightforward question (and a followup comment and reason).

Why can't Adobe actually release a version of the software that works properly?  One that you don't have to use workarounds to HOPEFULLY make it work.

Comment:  Adobe Digital Editions is akin to a VIRUS.  No matter how many times I uninstall, download a fresh copy, reboot and reinstall, it STILL has my authorization in it's data.  And I was told to install 3.0, and now when I try to download a book, it cannot find the application.

Oh, the reason I keep reinstalling is because when it does download a book, the software freezes so that I can't even close it except by using Task Manager.   (using Windows 7 on a laptop with 20 GIGS of memory)

Time for a new computer, but the time is wrong for a new computer.  A true dilemma.

I do not think this is the solution getting a new computer. There is a real problem with ADE actually and the only thing stopping us from choosing another software after doing so many uninstalling and reinstalling is the fact that for ebooks with .ascm extensions there is no other way than using ADE. I have had this problem for weeks on new computers and each time it comes to same thing : everything seems rigth until we try to download our books and then everything freezes and I am not the only one.

Hi, try Bluefire Reader and Pocketbook Reader, they are ACSM compatible
readers.
Thanks!

LATEST

I now have a solution/workaround due to the tireless efforts of Kurt who works in the Toronto Library system.

We tried deleting folders, removing info from the registry... and this is what worked.

Exit Digital Editions.  There is a folder (likely in your Documents library) called "My Digital Editions".  It is likely FULL of files.  Delete the old ones (for books that you are no longer using).  They are slowing the application down.

Now, try opening a book.

I hope this solves your problem

Benny
