I can't highlight some text, any reason why?

Randomly I am unable to highlight text, I can't seem to find rhyme or reason to it, any thoughts on why this occurs?

It doesn't allow you to choose the highlight function or select the words/sentences you wish to highlight.  So the answer is, it won't let you try it.
